How do you remove zip ties? my local field ties them to my tank to make sure that it's still valid but i can't get them off. they tied them to my guages and fill nipples and i can't get a knife in there

is there some sorta trick to get these off?

fresh razor blade and just slowly work at it, or just keep them on your tank like agg ballers

You must chew them off :D If you cant get a knife under then I suggest you give it to me since all hope is lost ;) or a razor blade as tony said, which ever way seems more reasonable lol

You snip them off with a pair of parrot bill wire cutters or a pair of nail clippers.

Inside the box part of the zip tie is a little "thing", that if you can press down with a pen, or anything you can stick in there, it will break the ziptie and you can pull it off. I don't know how to describe it better than that.

no clue what parrot bill wire cutters are, and nail clippers won't fit under the guage

thermus, yea i was looking in there but i gave up trying to find something small enough to fit in there.

tony - the razor blade worked :) well...i used some sorta sculpture'd blade which is pretty darn sharp.

thanks everyone

step 1: asses the position of the zip tie.
step 2: grasp dangly end and fold back, away from the loop.
step 3: Look inside the now exposed part and locate a small plastic tab that is fit into the grooves of the tie.
step 4: Use a pointed object to pry the little tab back, separating it from the groves in the tie.
step 5: Push the tie back, it will slide past the pry'd open tab and open the loop. Keep pushing until it can be removed, or comes appart.

Thats all there is to it, unless you want to grow some nuts and use a razor to cut it off. Or a pair of side cutters.

I hate using knives or blades due to scratching concerns. But a small pair of nippers or a hook bill blade or knife will do it too.

Best knife I've used were surgical blades.

Easiest way I've found to remove zip ties is to clip the box the tie goes into. Once it's clipped far enough you can break the link and it's off.

all you need is a standard jewlers scrwedriver.

jam it under the snap tab that secures the zippy part of the tie inside the head portion.

then back the thing out.

BTW this also works quite well if you find yourself with your hands / thumbs ziptied together. :P dont ask

I think you can just use some needlenose pliers to sorta "crush" the little box thingy and kinda work at it until it comes apart or the cord will just pull through it. Try squeezing the box so that it collapses around the cord, that might do it.
