All,

Here is an interesting list of almost all the paintball patents put together by Michael 'Have Blue' Guslick. They are interesting to look through and see who patents what. Even more interesting are the patents that you DON'T see because they didn't have anything to patent. You can see from the list who is doing creative stuff and who isn't.

I actually have some of those "sniper balls" lying around =P

Oh of note...
AGD Automag - note that Tom Kaye's last name is really 'Kotsiopoulos' - I guess he does look a little Greek... :-)

Ack! It's Delphion! These people are sending me junk email at work everyday. Ok, like you all care.
I use the government site for my patent searches. Yeah, yeah. I'll shut up now.

This is a patent on the Powerfeed. I was under the impression that you invented this and never patented it...

Care to comment on this?

Jan.

Actually I believe that it was the PMI 3/VM 68 that first came out with the power feed but I could be wrong so don't quote me on that.

Thanks for posting the link, Tom. If anyone comes across additional paintball patents, please drop me a line (I'm sure I've missed a couple in digging through the patent servers).

Regarding the links to Delphion - I originally had all the patent links pointing to the appropriate pages on Delphion, but then they announced that they were going to begin charging for access... I then began adding in links to the USPTO's patents as well as .pdf files of the patents themselves (certainly the easiest way to read them, in my opinion). I keep adding more .pdf files every so often, but they do take time to create (I have to use a backdoor into Delphion to nab one .pdf page at a time).

Regarding the powerfeed (http://airsoldier.com/~haveblue/tech/patents/5285765.pdf), the PMI-3/VM-68 never had a powerfeed - just a rather blocky direct-feed mounting (the very same one as used on Sheridan's short-lived Equalizer). Pro-Team later came out with a powerfeed that mounts in place of the direct feed block.

Yes we DID invent the power feed in 1990, if you check the date on this guys patent is was much later. The patent office doesn't check to see if there is anyone else already making the invention they just take your money and check the other patents. No we didn't patent it because we didn't think anyone else would use it.

If you had known then.......

For all intents and purposes the patent is useless. Due to prior art, or AGDs use of the powerfeed, the patent holder can never enforce the patent.

i bet they have a whole section devoted to smartparts/pneu ventures.

What aboutt he modular feed patient on the extreme body? I know it is pending, but Airguns Europe did it from what I understand. Any info?

I haven't come across anything on the modular body yet. The only tool I've used for browsing european patents is espacenet, and they don't appear to have any tools to do a boolean search of _just_ applications (and Delphion charges for such access).

Will keep digging, though.

SP has the patent on a ported barrel?

Kid_A

Do you still produce those Tom? In the patent, it even mentions that they are cheaper to produce than regular gelatin paintballs. Is that still true, or can gelatin paintballs be produced much cheaper now?

If memory serves me correctly that smart parts patent had a hand in why BOA isn't around anymore.......

If the Freak is patented then why are there several barrel systems out there using the same idea?

It seems like if SP want's to bust violators of it's patents that one would be a slam dunk.

Chasing down this silly "on/off" issue may very well pay off for them in immediate cash settlements but in terms of reputation and future sales it may kill them.

Chasing Freak patent violators would be a legitament case and wouldn't (shouldn't) have an adverse affect on their reputation.

Thoughts?

Actualy Powerlyte Scepters had to change its design last year to comply... you cannot see the inserts from the outside anymore.
