Let me first state that I like to win in recball, but if I lose then so be it.

Today, I was playing some woodsball/protect the fort at badlandz, and after I made it to there starting pointish I was shot out by some dude hiding in the brush. Lets call this dude bon

Well I turn off my gun wipe off the hit and put my barrel condom on, and start walking out from where I came from in order to avoid get bonus balled.

But Bob had a beef with this and threatened to shoot me if I did not go out to the other tapeline. Because he thought I was going to tell my teamates where he was. Well I left the way
Bob told me and I ended up getting bonus balled., surprise surprise.

I was going to bring this up to the manager, but he saw or atleast overheard most of it, and was friends with this Bob chararcter.

Anyway what are your guys thoughts?

what can u do ? seriously ... the guy is just a bad egg *shrug* so i don't have many thoughts about it

threatened to shoot me
Way out of line. Intentionally shooting someone not participating in the game would normally be considered assault.

The manager should be told what happened and asked pointedly, what he intends to do about it. If he refuses, tell him the situation could easily lead to violence.

I can't stand punks like Bob.

well first off you were at badlandz... surprise surprise... its going to happen even if you put on an orange vest and have an airhorn that blairs out "im out"

everytime that i have gone to badlandz i always get bonus balled hardcore even if all you can see is my gun and hand and my gun has the barrel condom on and the gun is up and its been out for about 20 seconds i still got shot about 7 times ... but yeah paintball is WAY to serious when you go to open play at "most" feilds. thats why i say get a few buddies together and get some property to play on

if this is the first offense by this one person then let it be. You were the bigger person for not getting involved with a dumbas$. If this is a recurring problem with one person then do what I do; I gunfight the guy until either you or him are pulled. Simple as that. I still maintain courtesy to every player off of the field but if they break the rules and the field owner/ manager/refs won't do anything about it then I will. I DO NOT get into fistfights at the field (thats the last thing paintball needs) but if noone is enforcing the rules of fair play then I play just how they want to play with them. No hard feelings but bonus balls can travel in both directions and have a safe drive home from the field!

I never really walk off the field unless it's real calm. I normally just put my hands up, yell, and sprint off so nobody pops me in the goggles/gun forcing me to clean them.

Last time someone shot at me like that i pulled my condom off and threw a few shots back his way. He had intentionally done it as a group of us were reinserting, so I figured he wouldn't mind me returning the favor. The refs and players backed up up on it and thought it was pretty funny.

I don't mind catching a string of balls as I'm signaling out or getting accidentally hit trying to leave the field. But when someone takes aim and pops me one when I'm CLEARLY out I get kinda pissed off. Even more so when it's more than 1 shot.

what really pisses me off is when I get shot, slip on the barrel condom and display it over the bunker or to the side of the bunker a few seconds to signal I am out, I start to walk of the field .. then BAM! Right in the back of the neck

lol, this thread is turning into a conversation about basically what happened to me yesterday...

you should probably just yell at the guy, and then do something if he does anything again.

Challenge the guy to a one v one game on whatever field you are best at. If he won't play you, tell him he's a whimp and walk away. More than likely he will accept however. Run up to him and bunker him, then bonus ball him a few times while bunkering him. The field may throw you out for the day for doing this, but hey whatever works. I've done this to 2 people who refused to stop bonus balling (refs wouldn't stop them from bonus balling btw). 1 started crying (little kid who thought he was a pb god!! LOL) and the other has never bonus balled me again. Don't shoot anyone in the head doing this....kinda goes without saying. On the back is the best, they remember the lesson they learned everytime they sit down

Just a suggestion.

It depends on who hit you with the bonus ball. Was it the Bob guy that told you too walk out that way? If it was him then I have a huge problem. If it was somebody else then the first time I would let it slide. But if I have my barrel condom on and hands up and walking towards a tape and get hit. All hell is more than likely to break loose. And especially if the guy told you too leave the feild in a different direction then shoots you. knowing you are dead. Next time I would just continue on the path I started on. Since you know where he is.. keep some hard cover between you and him and make your way off the field.

I don't mind the bonus balling, but it was the fact that this Bob character threatened to shoot me if I didn't go out the way he wanted.

calmly walk up to "bob" and tell him you didnt intend to talk to ur mates on the way outcause ur "dead" the dead cant talk and that would be cheating, then advise him that if he continues to act like an arse that you will inform the refs he is bonus balling. If the refs dont do anything about it and he continues to act the fool then u and ur boys wait for him in the parking lot .

you are far more restrained than i am. i would have seen how quickly i could have unloaded the rest of my hopper in his general direction. all the while yelling at the rest of my team that there was a guy in this clump of bushes. aholes like that ruin my day, so in turn i like to ruin theirs.

we have a bob or two at my field these are the bad regulars the ones who know the good angles and are overly protective of them. just remeber where he was and use it next time. but be the bigger person do what he wants and don't let some jerk kill your fun. I can only be the bigger person for so long, so the weakness of guys like bob is they take the same path everytime plan for this and put a ball in the back of his head (sure you could shoot him in the butt but nothin says gottca like a back of the head shot) so have fun and don't be a bob

A few weeks back I was out at OA in Bowie, MD - on one of their smaller woodsball fields & our side was getting rolled pretty bad. About 10min in I glanced over to my left & got a burst of five balls in the face, with one slipping underneath my mask and hitting the side of my chin....

Now the chin shot was fine, it was a lucky shot and I called myself out. Now the dead zone is directly behind me - so I put my barrel condom on, held both hands in the air & headed that way.....now the good part:

Not 10 sec later, the same guy opens up on me - hitting me another 5 - 10 times (from about 25ft away). Now I scream again that I am OUT! at the top of my lungs. Now there is nobody behind me, nobody beside me, and certainly nobody under me - so afterwards I ask him who the hell he was shooting at.

His response, "Hey, if you can't take the pain, play Laser Tag."

What an ***!

I don't think rec ball is "getting too serious", but there are a few jerks out there. It's why I very rarely play with strangers, except at big games.

It's also, IMO, another undesirable effect of the expansin of paintball, and the explosion of e-markers. It is now so easy and so cheap to throw an extra 10 balls at any movement or sound, that people are getting lit up more now than they did in the past. Veteran players like us know that it is just some trigger happy ***, and shrug it off (after a few curses). But for a newbie on his first day, it tends to deter them coming back for a second day.

I play on a relatively small indoor speedball field so bonus balling happens from time to time. Usually I accept it, but one time it was pretty bad. I got hit in the arm and called myself out. I was escorted off the field by two refs for some reason. Halfway off the field I got hit in the hand with a couple shots, entirely acceptable. However, three quarters of the way off the field the refs and myself got opened up on. I broke away from the refs and started screaming. I shouted over and over about the evident hearing imparedness of the opposing players. Something along the lines of, "You stupid morons! When I'm yelling 'I'm out, I'm out', I have my hands up and I have two refs walking me off the field then I'm probably out! Why is that so hard to understand you thick-skulled idiots!?" The game literally stopped for several seconds and the refs continued to walk me off the field as I composed myself. Afterwards I was feared as the "guy with the bad temper". Not my intention, but I didn't get bonus balled the rest of the night. I also calmly pointed this incident out to the head ref and he said he'd do something. There's really nothing he could do at that point, but that's ok. I think a little outburst of semi-controlled rage is needed from time to time on a rec field. I think everyone should try it, it's just so terribly empowering...

What day were you there? I was shot at while playing the fort and had a few shots that left welts a bit more painful than normal. I asked a ref to chrono the guy, didn't happen talked to Kurt the manager. He told me that the shots were under 300fps just by looking at my welts and there was no need to chrono the guy. Normally I don't argue but a shot from 25-30' dosen't draw the ammount of blood these did. These pics are from about 2 hours after the game and now the one on my neck is still swollen and bruised.

Edit: The pic of my neck looks better than what is really there.

Man gambit the one on you elbow broke skin and that is in no way under 300 fps. I have seen worse though, but since you went to the manager you should at least been obliged(sp?).

I would just stick to playing speedball and airball. The numbers are much smaller and there are usually more refs. It is a lot easier for two refs to control ten guys than it is to control 20+

Hunt him down the next game and give a bit of payback.

We had a guy at the old Nashville Paintball Sports field when it was owned by Jim Lively that would do the same stuff. When you were leaving the field with your hand or gun up, he would give a nice up close bonus ball. He tried that with a friend of mine that had one of the old Bushmaster pumps with the removeable barrel. The friend, whipped the barrel out of the gun and thumped him on top of the head, hard, and told him that type of playing would lead to a further butt whipping if it continued. It finally cured our resident jerk.
It actually had a nice attitude adjustment effect on him.

Not a good plan. If anyone were to hit me like that, my next move would be talking to the cops.

Then again I wouldn't be bonus balling anyone in the first place

Sounds like recball wasn't taken serious enough if the manager didn't do anything about it.

If you want to support this, then go ahead and keep going back the field and spending your money there.

This happened a looong time ago. Paintball wasn't what it is today back then.
