Hey all ...

Okay I have been an Intel person from day one .. but looking to upgrade my current system, and thought about giving AMD a look-over (mostly since they seem to be cheaper $$$ wise).

I am looking to move to a P4 2.8 - 3.0 system and wanted to know what the equivalent AMD cpu would be.

Being mostly a Unix person myself I typically deal in Sparc (Solaris), and Xeon (Linux) processors so I havent kept up with home class CPU's in awhile. My current machine is a dual pentium III xeon 866 ... good for work and such, but not so good for games.

XP 2800-3000 are the rough equivelents. Same goes for the 64 series.

yeah the amd athlon 64 3000+ is actually only 2.0 ghz but it runs games better than a pentium running at 3.0 ghz. its cheaper too

It's all about AMD for me ever since the first Athlons came out many years ago. My next PC is gonna be a custom build with the 64 chips hopefully by the end of the year.

The AMD 3000+ and 3200+ would be the closest competitors to the p4 3.0 ghz processors. A friend of mine has a 3.0 ghz system with 1024 mb of pc3200 and a radeon 9800 pro 256 mb, and I have an athlon xp 2500+ overclocked to 3200+ speeds, 512 mb of PC3200 and a radeon 9800 pro 128 mb, and we benchmark nearly the same in 3dmark 03, within a few hundred points.
