Looking for a New Automag Body Design... Winner Will Recieve their Own Custom Body

Hey:

Well, I have come to the conclusion, that I have no creativity and/or design. So I am calling upon you AO, to come up for me a new body/rail combination for my automag(s).

What I am looking for. Is a sketch, drawing, photoshop, or CAD file that can be made into an Automag Body. I would like to see them posted on here, so that I may pick a winner.

When/if you do decide to post, you are allowing me and the AO public to use whatever design you post, and the right to take that design and produce it and/or sell it. So, please if you would not like the design to be used by others or me, do not post.

ONLY qualifications are that it uses an AGD Sluggo body, is fitted onto a RT Pro or E-Mag Rail, and can be made and work with an AGD gun.

Winner of this contest will recieve their own design made out into a body/rail combination. That means free machining of your design.

Let the designing begin.

There is no particular time limit on this, no. It is mainly just running until the just of AO has seen it and added their thoughts and designs. I would like this done as soon as possible, but I'd also like as many designs as possible.

On another note:

Please if a design is not your own, BUT it is on AO, post it as, joey d, did, give koodos to the artist. (joey d, thankyou very much for posting that design and thankyou for giving Dave props, thats the right way this contest should be done) One reason for this contest is originality. I'd like artists to keep their own drawing and sketches if they do not want them entered.

All I ask is for respect for the people who have the skills and abilities to do this type of work.

On the time tables, this contest will run for awhile, like I said long enough so that I can see most of the work that AO can do for this. I am running this contest on other boards as well, but I am counting on AO (the automag kingdom) to dish out the best work.

Entrees- You can enter as many designs, pictures, sketchs, and drawings as you wish. There is no limit. So please if you can do more than one, don't limit yourself to just one entree. I'd like to see as many designs as possible.

I believe that I have answered all of the questions that have come up so far. If you need anything else answered just post up.

Well, this is mine... I like it a lot but I dunno about other people. ;) Aaaaaaand, the darker/lighter colors represent concave and convex milling... And the teardrop behind the barrel and the teardrop over the valve are windows. Feedback welcome... And I didn't spend much time on the coloring as you can tell ;)

Hooked up the old webcam, sorry for the bad pics :( If someone is good at editing these pics to look better then they do now...feel free! First pic has Skulls and Spider webs through-out, looks cool but would be really hard to machine. Second pic has a 3d Worm of somekind that looks like its crawling through the body, has alittle bit of the worm on the otherside, then the tail comes out the original side and wraps around the valve, my fav :D

This is a great idea. If someone does put a body into production though please make it have vert/warp breeches like an xmag body. Thats the main thing that annoys me about all the bodys out there right now, although a lot of them are cool none of them beside the xmag body have vert/warp breeches. So far id say the pics joey d has up are the best body design.

In spite of the lack of photoshop skill....that adreni-mag looks really awesome. I always did like the design on those Imps.

Dave's drawing should be done up in autocad. Its awesome from the drawing , but would be better with a 3d render to give some better idea as to its actual form.

Hey guys,

I'm very surprised to see those pictures coming out again! I originally did those up when they were still taking designs on the X-Mag.
I like what the other artists have done as well-love the creativity.
I'll admit, the designs I came up with are very complex, and probably very difficult to cnc, but I guess that is what made it special too.

Feel free to use the design-I originally did it to share with all of AO and my most earnest hope would be seeing it become a reality.

I hate to give this away but the program I use is Corel Bryce 5. Corel is the company that makes painter I believe. Bryce 5 makes amazing landscapes and is fairly capable at the kind of design I do. If you want something that would be better for paintball type designs I would recommend Maya 6.0. It has a bit more of a learning curve but I heard its great.

Couple of questions..

First - When does the contest end?

Second - I am new to mags (just got a MM a little while ago), but would that RTPro body work with a classic frame and such? Just want to make sure that if mine where to win I could still use it ;)

Also, because I am new to every thing, is there any chance that some one could or would post some specs for a body so that I can measure things out to ensure that the proportions look correct on my drawing?

Last, even if I dont win and you like the design, any chance we can sit down and chat about getting some made from it? I would be willing to pay to get them milled as long as they are made for a limited run.

after doing some more research and getting ahold of colin i got ahold of this BETTER/BEST stealth body yet in my opinion i cant outdue thise one. i do agree the other one had TOO many angles but this one is about perfect and a half. I gues there would be no reason that he couldnt do them himself but he said he didnt really have an interest since hes so busy with "other" projects.well here it is

SWEET! Ok, I am very happy. I am working on about 4 designs right now and hope to have something fleshed out in the next couple of weeks. I am attempting to sit down with a friend of mine so that he can run them through some CAD software and create some cad movies of the items and will post links to the movies (if possible) so that people will get the full effect of what I am trying to do.

I have a bunch of designs that I really like, to the point I think a lot of people would want some.. I dont know if they would be as big as the Karta or Dallara but hey, its worth the shot :)

I had emailed NICAD a while ago to see if he would be interested in doing this but I would be doing it privately with him but I never heard back.. I know he is incredibly busy so he may of just brushed it off as another person wanting to do something :)

Heres a slightly different version of the Carbon 0 body. Clean, simple (lookin anyway, not sure on milling). I going for the less is more/sleeper milling. hope you like it!

Exactly, the look tha i was going for. I pretty positive once its milled out is will look pretty cool.

and the shape is distinctively different from the dallara. there are fewer lines on this one. if anything iw as goin for a more mellow X mag look

Although ClassicMagger has not said it out loud, The winning design will be the one that looks the closest to a 1911 .45 ACP...prefferably Springfield Armory. A Desert Eagle would also, well...ROCK.
Also, A body that looks like a bottle of Sierra Neveda Pale Ale would probably also win.

If you mean having more of the valve showing i think you can do that. If you look on an xvalve and the DW bodies more of the valve is showing than with a ULE body of PF body.

No offense Carbon but i dont think a less detailed version of a dallara body is gonna cut it lol. Your design is kinda plain and looks almost like a dallara which doesnt make it stand out and stuff.

I own Dallara #2. Carbon's body doesn't resemble it that much at all. In terms of showcasing, Carbon has done the best job of portraying his idea. Nice Job guy.

I agree about the Wing design, however, bear in mind, that the design while very sweet looking, has a LOT of fine detail that might dissappear when transfered to the slug.

Jet, I need a top view for the wing design, the sides can look great, but if the top of the body(which gets looked at a lot while playing) looks like crap, it can throw off the whole look.

If you compare Bad_Dogs images to Xino's, he didn't clean them up at all. I think he made them more sloppy. And if you compare Glickman's to Xino's, I think he is stomping on glickman's work.

I do, however think that Xino is a great artist. I just dont think that type of drawing is right for body design.

Haha ok settle down now. Sorry if I offended anyone or stepped on a few toes with my artwork that’s not what I intended. Yes my wing body was inspired by Glickman's IDEA. Sorry but if you think there is any similarity besides basic premise between my drawing and the pixilated picture he posted then that’s too bad.(Look at his picture and my drawing there is little similar between our wings. my design is far more detailed) Yes its the same idea but I don’t think this is about ideas here its about EXECUTION. If ClassicMagger can't get a good enough idea from your drawing then he will be unable to mill it. Thus my top and side views. If Glickman can draw out a better design or present the Winged body design better or more clearly than me then by all means he should get the credit.

I never claimed my designs were original ideas I clearly stated that these were VARIATIONS on two previous designs posted.


Couple of variations on pistol design and another from the angel wings

Anyone who knows anything about art will tell you its all been done before its impossible to be totally and completely original anymore. My works are clearly different than the ones posted. I simply took the idea and put MY personal artistic spin on it. I did not look at a single picture while drawing either body but I knew the STYLE and THEME I was going for. I have drawn this particular wing design many times before on other pieces of my work and will gladly post pictures if proof is needed.

As far as Bad_Dog gun HK 45 inspired body goes please... You mean to tell me that because he posted a design with a gun theme no one else is allowed to try to improve upon it or give it their own spin? You are not the art police. Honestly I'm not that big of a fan of my own "gun" inspired body if people like it great I was just trying to see if I can improve upon the idea. Other wise I'm more than happy if Bad_Dog gets the credit for his own design but just because some one came up with an idea does NOT mean its off limits to further interpretation or manipulation. The designs are plenty different if someone likes mine great if they like Bad_Dogs' better that’s fine too they are different enough that some will prefer one to the other.

If I ever directly copy a design you can all hang me but until then my designs that have a similar theme but different execution deserve just as much credit as the next. If someone can out design me and accurately portray his or her design better than me by all means go ahead. Until then let’s stop the stop the drama, I apologize if I upset anyone but if I see something that intrigues me or interests me I'm going to experiment with the design and do my best to improve upon it.

I'm just trying to build a better mousetrap if ya know what I mean. Sorry for the lengthy post.

Okay guys, enough bickering, and just enjoy the artwork. ClassicMagger, myself, and the other judges do recognize the ideas by EVERYONE, and we do know who's design is who's. There is nothing wrong with artistic interpretation. I do want to point out, that if we don't have a clear picture or artwork, it truely is hard to guage what the person's original idea was, and how they invisioned it.

I can only speak for myself, but I don't have a problem with improving an idea, and if someone does plagerize artwork we will notice. If you do use someone's idea then acknowledge them, much like Joey D did when he posted Dave's original Xmag artwork, its the only fair thing to do.

Sorry, just saw this. It doesn't look like that body to me. IIRC this idea was posted after the PBX body was made. I could be wrong, really didn't pay that much attention. I still like that design... :D

Ok, here's my entry. I'm a total noob at automags, so bear with me. I looked at the Slug body cad and put it into the solid modeler.. I didnt know there was all that extra metal in the back... because I thought the 'valve' stuck out beyond that (as I thought I figured from the slugged automag picture on the website).. Guess not, so I just cut down my entry. Here's pictures of what I did:

WOW!, I think my choice may have changed. I think I need to see the rail... maybe having the milling curve downwards?

Hey All

Well I am sorry to say that I will NOT be able to get my submissions in today in time for the dead line..

I was working on 4 idea's

- Tribal Mag
- Scorpion Tribal Mag - Specifically designed around Tom Kaye and his WICKED GRIPS!
- Flamed Mag with 3D flames
- Skull Mag - With thousands of tiny 3D skulls and 1 large skull..

If I am able to get them done in a 3D rendering I will post them some time in the future or something..

great design cross eyed!! it looks like a star wars jet ski from hell. this would be a really cool design, but the rail would need to be milled also to fit in just right.

there are a wide aray of good body designs, most of them look way better than a z-body, so i can definately see how they could get produced.

Great design man, I've been following this thread pretty closely and I think that's probably one of the best. Top 3, at least. It's like a Karta and Dallara in one but with a warped look. Colin himself would be proud. :)

Just a small update from what I have heard from ClassicMAgger...

The original shop that was going to produce the body has decided not to do them. As for which body won, I honestly don't know myself... I haven't heard the winner :(

WW: From what I've heard about your services, I don't see how you can ***** and moan at someone for not selecting a custom design, getting a CAD rendering, blank sluggo's, finding a machinist, then doing the milling and anno in a month.
