Big computer problem

My computer isn't even recognizing my cd rom (a DVD-RW)!!

It's always been screwy.. autorun never worked... it would usually freeze attempting start>Run>D:/ , and was always a PITA.

Now it doesn't even work! There's a cd in it, and it won't even open to get it out!


I have a dell inspiron 8600, I tried searching their site for a new driver or something, but I get nothing. Before I have to call up tech support and wait an hour, can AO help me?

You might want to check if it is a master or slave. Is it all connected right?

It's a laptop.. the thing is actually removable, replaceable with a floppy drive or extra battery. That's where I'm thinking the trouble is coming in.

It's that hardware send it into dell it wont be gone for more then three days anyway.
