This article is from Sept 3rd, during the Republican National Convention. Took me a while to get it scanned, thought AO and Tom might like to see it.

Cool. Ya know though...they keep calling it a "paintball gun". The problem is, that it's not. you are gonna get some idiot out there that reads this and say, hey, how bad can it hurt, I think I am gonna cause trouble anyway. He'll find out real fast that it's not a normal paintball gun:)

Yeah, that was really my only issue with the article. The media needs to learn to seperate paintball from riot suppression technology derived from paintball.

I've got a copy of Boston Herald (this artical is the only reason I touched this rag) Tues. August 24, 2004 that's got the FN303 on the front page.

The artical is about how "[Boston] cops sitting on DNC Arsenal." I guess they've got a few things left over that didn't get used in all the "riots" durring the DNC.

Seeing such a poorly written as this one makes me wonder how these "journalists" must write a bunch of other poorly informed articles about other topics, because they obviously don't do much research about a topic before they write.

These phrases stood out for me the most...

"A distance of at least 10 feet between the cop and the target is required before the paintball is fired."

"Compressed air blasts the paintball out of the muzzle at a knockdown velocity of 300 feet per second..."

I know the FN-303 rounds are substantially harder then normal, so this may be an entirely true statement. Not a terribly big fan of seeing "paintball" being associated with the capability of "knocking someone down".

I'm also wondering about the "decreases to 75 feet per second at 100 meters"... Can this thing shoot over 300 feet, even if its only going 75fps?

Well, if I remember Tom right, the tank dumps 3000psi into the valve every shot. It chronos around 450fps or so. I don't think we ever chrono'd Muz's or Simon's.

Also, the paint pellets they are talking about- not only are they plastic but they are lead tipped...

Projectiles
The projectiles have been designed especially to break up on impact, eliminating risks of penetrating injuries. Thanks to their fin stabilized design, the projectiles have an effective range of 50m with a much higher hit probability than any other similar product.

The primary effect is trauma : the shock (15J/cm³) directly neutralizes the aggressor. Secondary effects will be delivered by a chemical payload chosen according to the mission requirements

All .68" projectiles have a 8.5g weight, a polystyrene body and a granular non-toxic bismuth forward payload

The projectiles are about 8grams (paintball is 3grams). With a paintball the thing shoots over 400fps at it's lowest velocity. So if you get hit with an 8 gram projectile at 300fps, it bery will might "knock you down". and yes, the valve does take 3000psi right from the tank.

Now compare how much praise is given to this as a SAFE alternative to how dangerousna dn unsafe paintball is show to be.... selective logic in action.

The 303 was also in The Boston Globe when they were discussing preparations for the Democratic National Convention. Nice big picture too, on the cover of the section.

Yes, the FN303 was designed by AGD. This is the reason why nothing new was released into the paintball world by AGD between 1996 and 2000. It's quite a spiffy "weapon". The guys at NJAO got to look at mine, as far as I know, there are two in public hands (Mine and Manikes). There might be more, but I have not seen or heard of them.
