This is a nifty Halo drive cone mod by C_22's team tech's, check it out!

Well we (the team) did this because we kept breaking cones, just like everyone else. Basically all we used was a DREMEL (drilling, cutting and sanding), some screws we found and rubber nipples (we just got them in a hardware store after some browsing through the place, we don’t know exactly what they are so we just call them nipples). Sorry, but the pictures came out blurry but you’ll get the idea.

We tested this on a cone with a broken lower tab. It’s easy to determine where the tab originally was so we just drilled with the DREMEL and inserted a screw (we also used some super glue but the screw is very tightly fit and it has some solid support anyways). After that we just cut the screw so that it would have the same length the original plastic tab had. Of course, same goes for the upper part of the cone, you have to trim off so that it’s even with the cone’s surface.

On the upper side of the cone, we cut the tabs (and sanded anything that remained from them) that push the paintballs. After that we drilled holes in the exact same location where the tabs used to be. Since we already had the nipples, we just figured the holes would be good enough for the nipple to go through and at the same time stay in place. We used those rubber nipples but there are definitely other materials that can be used.

On the field they work great. We tested them with DM3s, DM4s (w/ Tadao) and an ALIAS (there’s always a rebel on any team). The rubber nipples are gentler on paintballs due to their flexible material (which is always helpful when balls jam up as the push force can be stressful on paint). One little drawback is that that rate is slightly lowered, yet this is hardly noticeable.

Anyway, this is what we have done to broken AND new cones. It has worked wonders for us. Thanks to Flavio + Hugo (our team techs).

Hope its useful info.

some of our guys have shaved off the little paddles on the cone and fixed small foam paddles instead in an attempt to stop the halo smashing balls so often. Works great.

That only fixes the drive spring tab problem. It would be as bad or worse than the plastic for breaking paint.

I don't think I'd need the nipples too often as I don't normally shoot really thin shelled paint. It'd be nice to have one of those cone put aside in case I get some in the future.

flexiable paddles has to lead to slightly slower speeds. when the spinning starts theres the torq, the force of the paddles on the balls has to bend SOMEWHAT.

good idea but what ever prolong use? wont the paddles wear out like the evos? (bending and stuff)

i think i'll stick with the shocktech aluminum cone

but its a nice idea!

I know exactly what your talking about. EVO2s have that issue after some time. We haven´t experinced any problems regarding wear with theses nipples, but again we have only used them for about 6 months. We have a vast number of them, I guess we can always change them for new ones, but like said no one has needed it so far. In fact, we made one where the nipples are thiner only on that one we placed two nipples instead of one "fat" one.
Regarding speed, while there is a slight decrease in speed, we found it was hardly noticable.
