Hey all,
I was wondering, the nifty feature that allows you to save music to you X-Box's hard drive: what format does it save the music as? MP3, Wav, etc.? Just wondering...

I would assume WMA since its a Microsoft thing. I never thought about it though.

It's WAV, it won't read mp3's.

it will rip them straight off a bought CD or you can, with the newer ones rip WMA, WAV, and MP3's from a closed CDRW. heres a link to everything you need to know about the Xbox. Xbox FAQ (http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/xbox/file/xbox_a.txt)

The older ones would only read cd's from a store but the newer ones allow you to listen to burned cds. I have no idea what the file type thingies are or anything though lol.

I belive you can make them play MP3's if you install a modchip.

The only way you can read mp3 cd's on an xbox is with a mod chip. Mine does play cd-rs and cd-rw's tho.

You mean you have an older one that can only play unburned cd's. The older ones cant play burned cds but the new ones can (without a mod chip btw).

The old ones can read burned CD's if they are burned onto a CD-RW.

His question was "what does it save it as" and I doubt its WAV cause that'd be too size heavy (wav's are MUCH larger than WMA/MP3). I assume it saves to WMA for space, cause otherwise you could only fit like 40 songs on your drive.
