Hey, just wondering what is the best back up marker for a front player? Something guaranteed to work, not heavy & preforms we'll under stress.

I was thinking of a 04 bushy w/pds, but I'm not sure at all.

or you can get a uped vision imp. get some ecs and it will rip. used imps are cheap these days but still really fast. and there faster then mags

If you want a marker you can leave sitting around for months until its needed one of the more "tanklike" mechanicals is likely where its at. A tippman (gasp) or a mag is perfectly suited to this.

However... there is a disadvantage to switching back and forth between markers. My two are nearly twins (03 Shockers, one has rebound on doesn't, rebounds off at tournies anyways). Both use the same hopper, same feedneck, same tank, and are even the same color.

Having two complete setups that you can switch back and forth on saves you a lot of panic in tournaments should you ever have an issue - I have yet to have this issue.

Anything that you maintain.

I know a kid that plays with his 2k2 timmy over his naughty dogs because his 2k2 is more reliable. It was originally his "Backup" gun but now he uses it more then ever.

I keep a MT converted 03 speed as a back up to my Fly, why ? The Joy Is sexier but they both shoot the exact same.

i think it'd be easier to answer this question if first you answered these two questions.

1. What kind of gun are you using as your main?

2. What is your spending limit?

i would do an imp.

theres ton of varieties to choose, their pretty well priced, and very reliable.

I just shot a B2k a few days ago and I was surprised how much you can rip on it! it is pretty fast except there was one problem about getting bunkered and the gun being shot and a screw fell out! haha

Heck, an 04' B2K is my primary with an Icon-Z as a back up. You people have way too much money if your back-ups cost 300+.

I think that really depends of the type of tournies you play. I don't want my backup holding me back at all.

I don't want to be in a tournament, have to switch markers, pull up to shoot someone and realize then that I have to pull the trigger a long ways rather than just touch it. Nope Nope, that would suck. I may play for fun, but I like to win, and hate to see stupid things on my part cost team a win. Mostly because everytime they do I end up buying dinner.

Explanation: My team has a standing bet. Dumbest move of the day buys dinner when we travel to tournaments. I have yet to not loose this bet.

In the truest sense of the word, your backup should be the same type of gun as your primary. That way, no matter what, you should be able to put together a working setup.

Something to think about.

KIeep a look out for those new odyssey markers. Very nice for a $300-400 backup. ;)

i was concidering getting a backup, then i played a day with my lil bro's tippy (pro lite- OLD) its really light, fast enough (probably ~7bps? good enough to snap shoot with) wasnt really great, but alot of fun to play with :p

anyway- my teammate picked up a tricked out imp for a backup, preety nice, and easy to pickup because there resale is LOW

I thought imps have first shot drop? That turns me off. I've played agaist a guy with a normal imp and he complained that he had a hard time snaping me because of first shot drop off.

if you have it set up right like i do, you will not get fsdo.

ima say a BKO with a few ups just because it's cheap and pretty fast. Another choice would be a RT ULE of course or an imp if you dont mind putting a few ups into it

a teammate is selling a b2k4 pds with boomstick. Anyways he used it for a while and it is a very good gun.

I highly suggest getting a B2k4 over an impy. They come with a WHOLE lot more for a lower price, and are way more reliable.
However, if you REALLY want a backup, the only way to go is a mag :)

I think that the mag should be the starter gun and the bko or whatever should be the back up = )

As fast as a legal e/x mag :)

What is up with this fascination of speed in the e/x-mag. Yes they can be made to be as fast as any other legal marker out there... but what is up with the theory that they are faster. 31BPS without shootdown - does not mean that you can outshoot any other marker out there. It is just something that is actually proven rather than considered. Can you reach 31BPS with legal trigger pulls and legal software?

without a reactive trigger (which is not leagal in tournies) you will not shoot faster then my bros and other ppls imps, incuding mine

In my opinion your back up should always be equal to your main. Why? If you have to use the other you dont want to waste time getting used to a different gun, or you could swap parts from gun to gun

The new bushies are great I have a late model 2003 b2k, same as '04 basically w/ no pds. It is as fast as any gun without bounce, easy to maintain, and the only time it didn't work is when I didn't change the battery. Gripes, the detents suck if you are using a halo b and kicks more than my viking (micro-rock helps with that). There are several replacement detents that are cheap, so that isn't a problem. The only real upgrade that I would do for an '04 b2k with pds is buy a zenitram modified micro-rock lpr, they turned night into day for my marker. '04 ICD inline is fine, I bought an '04 gladiator for mine and had only marginal increase in performance. They designed this marker with simplicity in mind, it is way easier to adjust the trigger and tear apart than my viking. Just get some dow 33, slick honey, or some kind of lube like that for your ram and you should be fine.

b2k4 w/ pds is a really nice setup. Same trigger frame as my bko, serious rippage for a stock setup. Just make sure you get those eyes!

or
used emag

an '04 Bushy with PDS is a very nice marker setup right out of the box.
a BKO is going to require ups and will cost near the same as the bushy in the end.
used imp with vision may be a good idea too, but they seem to be like the BKO where they need some $$$ luvin.

Just all depends on the money you have and what level you want.

one thing for sure, Bushies get knocked on alot by people who don't know any better, and so do up'd imps.

My current Backup for my '04 Shocker is an all STOCK 68 Classic Mag :ninja:
