neither.

Pick up a MacDev Matchstick or a Kaner for about the same price.

Ive been using the Matchstick for a bit now...$140 for 4 backs and 3 fronts. I like it alot...still wont make me give up my WWA Freak Boomer style barrels and SS inserts but....DEFINATLY worth the $$$

To me Freak, more choices in bore size - though to tell you the truth my freak normally sits unused and I just use my AA barrel.

If you do go freak I suggest getting a stainless one. Get one from somewhere you can return it though. There was a bad batch of stainless freak kits where the bore sizes were mislabeled.

I run a pipe with my angel, and ii have some INTRESTING complains, I got the back stuck to the front, its been officailly label "****ed" by the proshop. And all my little stickers that say like .68~ have begun to fall off. I like it other than that, it was great b4 this happened. It is very very loud, but also very very lightweight, i would guyss the freak would weight twice as much

It is very very loud, but also very very lightweight, i would guyss the freak would weight twice as much  Why? I've got a freak on my sex-e, and it's not heavy at all. And that's even with a stainless steel back, which you don't need.

Oh well i said i guess, all i know its the pipe is really light, since its only 2 piece construction, not 3, and the tip is so frekin thhin im afraid to touch it Bob im me, im bored thi morning
just click on the aim thing

BobTheCow

I'm at school.

3-piece construction? Huh? The only 3rd piece I could conceive you're talking about is the insert, but that weight is negligable.

Echo419

good point i guess, and yes the 3rd piece was refering to the insert. I have a better idea... get a PCV pipe melt it to ur stock barrle drill boring in... Thne with the saved 138.20 dollars go buy Dance Dance Revolution with an upgraded mat :ninja:

wooooooooooooo

Go with a pipe. I have had mine for over a year and I haven't bent a tip. The thing cleans out any breaks like it was it's job.. The thing rocks. You can get them on the web for under $150 if you look. IF you are really concerned about the tip, Evil has an 'Ultra Tip' that has more meat on them.

The stainless Freak is a good barrel but there are so many more that are VERY much worth looking in to, such as the Powerlyte Scepter (gotta love those tapered, locking sleeves and fronts), J&J's Edge, or the new Lapco barrels. I've also got a Kaner around here somewhere that shoots freakin' darts too. Don't automatically knock out more than half your options!

I likke the look of the pipe, but am a bit wary of the tip. I was always afraid to touch the tip on anything :P
But they do have the thicker tip available.

Freak kit is good if you have multiple markers of different types of barrel threads.
But I really dislike the insert system. (personal pref) I'd rather have solid backs.

Sorry to invade your thread, but what's probably the better kit, J&J Edge or Matchstik? Both are in the same price range.

Another vote for Powerlyte Scepter, or TiPaintball's Longbow (aluminum backed).

I'll 3rd or 4th or 5th the sceptor as well. Awesome kit! Fit and finish is superb and the new ones now come with a hard plastic case.

That makes two of us! The WWA Freakaboomer custom backs/front rock my world! Got a 10" & 15" tip, with a double raduis back for my angel and one of my mags. Also have a SP aluminum back for my other mag, with a Doc's Machine Flashpoint tip.

i would say freak only because if you buy a different gun/have a backup gun, then you just switch the backs and your good to go. this saves you some money from buying a new barrel/kit for every gun you own. and yes, it is true that you will most likely never use the majority of the inserts for your freak kit, but what you could do is just buy a jr. freak and 2 inserts or something (for a total of 3 inserts). just get a medium bore (.689) a small bore (.685) and a large bore (.693) or something in that area. thats probably what im going to be doing ;)

I say the pipe. I havent tried any other kits besides the freak. The freak is much quieter, but i like the way the pipe shoots. I used the pipe on a impulse and it worked great.

Haven't shot a Pipe but I have two Freak sets. Quiet, very light (with the aluminum back) and reasonably accurate. I also have a Sanchez SM-1. It's a bit heavy compared to the Freak but it shoots darts and not everyone else has one.

Having owned both a Freak kit an Pipe kit I would go with the pipe.

The Pipe honestly does shoot out breaks well and is accurate. The freak kit never really impressed me.

Drawbacks are that if you play in the woods or scenario I guess it would be considered a loud barrel. Also the tip is thin and will bend if you slide wrong.

I have had a 14 inch Pipe kit for about 3 months and I have to say I love it. The tip feels like it will cut you or something, but it hasnt bent on me and ive had some interesting slides with it. As far as shooting, the barrel breaks which I do have are cleaned out in at max 5 shots which by the time I stopped shooting to swab it, the barrel was clean enough to definately finish the game.

k, ive got a question about the freak inserts- what, exactly, are the advantages of the stainless steel freak insert kit?

Tolerances are better. Don't hold me to this, I heard somewhere that the Freak's are bored BEFORE anno... Which constitutes a bad thing. :)

Myself, I used to shoot a Freak on my main gun... It's quiet, but it seemed to make balls hook on my RT. Works great on my classic, Everyone compliments it on how quiet it is.

Then I tried a pipe. Fun, but the inserts are pretty 'stepped...' And only 5 of them...

Now I shoot a Scepter on my main gun. It's nice, 6 inserts although you're limited on bore size, they each only differ by like .002, If I do recall (At school so I can't look at them) So if you shoot large paint you might have trouble finding a large enough bore.

It is by far the nicest of the bunch. Handle + SOFT carrying case = Fun.

On my stainless freak kit I intentionally broke a ball in the back of the insert, left the shell and all the paint there, then fired through it - in about ten shots I was back to shooting reasonably straight - they seem to clean out better than aluminum.
