i hope not, because milk will make it worse........... your best bet is water and lots of it, or cancel it out with a different kinds of spice, try hot sauce

Since hot sauce is an acid I suppose you could try a base, like baking powder or soda, but it won't taste good at all.

milk and bread...milk will reduce the acidity and the bread will soak up some of the spice. Drinking lots of water will only make it worse because it will spread it all around.

So question back to you...Got Milk? :D

WRONG! Water or any other liquid just makes it worse, because it allows the spice to travel down your throat even more. Eat a piece of bread.

Buttermilk and bread work the best.

Its not an acid, a base will do nothing.

Capsaicin makes you feel hot due to interactions on the trigeminal nerve. The only way to cancel it out is with sugar, which has a relative cooling effect due to dissolution of the crystal latice.

This gives rise to zestiness scale of Scoville units, which is a measure of how many equivalents of sugar water it takes to cancel out a spice. milk is more effective because it contains lactose, which has a relative coolign index of 3.0 (sucrose is 1.0)

pH is irrelevant.

Any other questions?

pure white granulated sugar. Has always worked for me. I don't know the science behind it but it works. I usually use a teaspoon.

Why do people post that milk is basic? If you didn't know bases taste similar to acids, a bitter taste, and also large amounts of basic solutions in your body is not a good thing. The pH of milk is close to 7....its around 6.5 meaning its close to neutral a little on the acid side. The pH of milk decreases as it goes bad, meaning bad milk is acidic.

OJ is the best drink to drink.

On a side note, who want to try my 6 AM Reserve hot sauce? Only 16 million on the scoville scale...............

so what if the scale only goes to 16 million....
