sould i upgrade this computer or trash it??

Ok well I have a really nice project computer and I am thinking about upgrading the hell out of it. Well the only thing is that I basically need to upgrade everything on it. Well here are the specks on it.

Gateway professional V900Cse

Intel celeron processor 900MHz with 128K cache

128MB SDRAM

20GB ultra ATA hard drive

20x CD drive (12X CD-RW secondary drive)

Rixio easy cd creator 5

Microsoft windows 98-second edition

Microsoft works suite 2001 including word and Encarta

2 pci expansion slots

Ethernet Internet slot

2 usb ports/1 serial port/1 parallel port/ 2PS/2

16" monitor

How much is it worth??? And dose anyone thinks I should put time in it or jest bye a new computer??? The computer tower is very slim I took the case off and its nice and snug. There is space to upgrade the memory stick but not sure about the ram. I want to do is get a faster processor, bigger hard drive, xp home edition, faster cd drives for faster burning cd's, dvd drive. Then it turns out worthy to do more I was thinking in the cool looking cases that are see though with lights and a bigger and plasma computer screens. I want jest want it for a media computer for music, videos, and i am thinking about computer gaming. The thing is that I have a felling that if I do all of this stuff I can jest get a new computer. If its too much to do I can jest sell it and save up for a nice computer that you can hook up your TV and video games and I can save TV shows to it. Help me out on what is a better and easier thing to do??

I guess trash, but up grading is fun too. I have finnaly finished upgrading my POS comp, i pretty much replaced everything except cd drive and hard drive. And by I replaced i mean i bought the parts and Xmetal did all the work.

I have no idea. Maybe 50 bucks? :confused: It will cost just as much to upgrade it as buy a new one, 'cause you'll have to upgrade everything in it! :D

If you're going to build it yourself, check out newegg. Good prices and good service. I just built a p4 3.0 from there for under 1k. Good luck with whatever you decide.

well if i upgrade this computer it will have to have a

pentium 4 processor nice 3.0 ghz

1 or 2 gigs of ram

xp multi media edition

really nice sound card

video card

new disc drives

and new case

witch = an arm and a leg. well this computer i hate to say is mine :(


i share a computer at my dads witch i really like. its a compaq with pentium 4 with 2 ghz 512 memory stick. 80 gigs and a 42X cd copier and its about 3 years old and runs very nice but if i sell this gateway i wount have a compuer for my moms house soo. i am thinking in jest getting a new processor new memory. then after that ill slowley get a faster cd drive and case like emagballa's! ;)

Keep your options open.

Don't rule out macs, or Linux.

You can always get a nice refurbished G4 tower and keep your current monitor. For a good price, too.

Or try and pony up the cash for a signle processor G5(~1500). Or an iMac.

i was thinking that but i think that i would get enough to at least get a 20 gig one on e-bay. i found a new one on there go for 225-275 thats alot cheaper then at the stores!! but with shipping it would be 300 then the dock is 50 bucks soo thats 350 and i can get a 40 gig one for 400 with a dock soo i should jest get the 40 gig one!!
