blowback is when part of the air used to shoot your paintball is diverted to the bolt and "blows" it "back" to a locked position against the sear, thus rendering the gun able to fire another shot, MAGs are a blow forward, the spring surrounding the bolt returns it to a rearward position, hope this helps, I'm here all night, don't forget to tip your waitress:D
