Check this out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=16048&item=7114173520&rd=1

This auction is posted like the guy is selling a DM4, it's even in the "Marker" section, and then he added half-way into the auction a statement at the bottom saying that "the auction is only for pictures of a DM4, not for an actual DM4." Sketchy, considering the price is all the way up to $400. I'm going to report him to eBay as soon as I can figure out how... Anybody know how to do it?

yea, some one did this a while ago, different guy and the aution ended with 900 + bucks, but the wierd thing is that the guy got positive feedback on it.

THIS AUCTION IS ONLY FOR A SERIES OF DM4 PICTURES AND NOT FOR THE ACTUAL GUN. PLEASE DO NOT BID IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO BUY A MARKER. I HAVE GOTTEN MANY EMAILS REGARDING THIS SUBJECT. THANK YOU

atleast its there easy enough to see in LARGE FONT. some people really dont read what they hell they are buying.

but then again he goes into GREAT detail to sell it by having pics of the lpr, bolt etc etc.

one of the more clever scams ive seen. i hate to see somone get ripped off on it. but i agree as i always have it is the buyers fault as much as the sellers if they DONT READ

thats retarded. I started sending emails to the ebay members that are bidding on it, so they can retract their bids. Thats outright fraudulent.

Yeah, it's got a new high bidder now, I contacted him.

I mean, you definately should read the auction, and every revision to the auction, if you are bidding on something. However, there have been times that I have bid really high on something that I really wanted and left town, or otherwise was away from my computer until after the auction ended. Imagine if you expected a dope black and yellow DM4 with a blade trigger and a Conquest in the mail and you only got pictures of one. I would murder that guy.

I reported him to eBay as well, and e-mailed him letting him know I did so. Hopefully someone won't get screwed other than him.

he isnt doing anythign wrong. So someone selling a picture is doing wrong? theres alot more people to report then. He specifically states it is not a marker you are bidding on. Just like the people who sell lists of wholesale places to buy from or someone who sells a pic of a car from a magazine article. Yeah its a bit underhanded but he does state what he is giving them. And its not even in fine print. So I fell its the buyers fault in this case. And those of you emailing the bidders..you should only be tellign them how stupid they are not that he is doing somethign to them.

technically this person has done nothing wrong considering he does mention the fact that it isnt really for a marker.

yes its kinda shaddy and will prey on those who dont read the auction fully, but thats their own fault for bidding on something that they didnt even read the full auction on. ebay auctions are binding, and all that the seller has done is exploit that fact.

they did this like 2 years ago by selling information on where to buy an angel in the same way. one of my friends almost got scammed by it till he was outbid, and then noticed what the auction said.

edit: i didnt even look at the auction before i wrote this, but now that i have, the people that have bid on this must be dumber than i thought. cmon now, the pics dont even show the same marker in all the shots. personally id see that right away and be like wtf, and would read the rest of the auction.

Yes, he did state that they are pictures, 2 days after he started the auction. I think you guys are missing the point: He is trying to scam people, and someone will get screwed if they pay $500+ for pictures. Do they deserve it because they missed him revising the auction? Personally, I don't think so.

Both the bidders and the sellers have the option to retract bids.

I saw something like the same thing... It said "Brand new impulse paintball gun box woth stock parts such as bolt, trigger, and feedneck" so they just got a box with 3 stock parts in it... went like $180+

READ BEFORE YOU BID

every day a sucker is born. He actually pretty smart, really if there dumb enough to bid 500.00 without first reading what exactly there buying they deserved to be jacked. Dont feel so bad its probably some rich kids parents letting him bid and his dad jacked someone in a business deal to get his money. It all comes back around.

I think thejesus hit it on the head.

11/13 - Seller but DM4 on Ebay, nice cut-n-paste job of specs off DYE's site.
11/14 - Seller waits until for bidding to increase
11/15 - After 10:47 PM, seller puts "clairification" that this is only for the pictures, not the gun.

However, prior to 10:47 on 11/15, these people already bid on it:

kmitchell1006 ( 7 ) US $400.00 Nov-15-04 22:33:03 PST
slick-snake420 ( 0 ) US $378.23 Nov-15-04 19:52:00 PST
lea826 ( 1 ) US $320.00 Nov-14-04 18:56:25 PST
sirzapalot ( 7 ) US $250.00 Nov-14-04 16:54:04 PST
lea826 ( 1 ) US $200.01 Nov-14-04 18:55:53 PST
paintballpro436 ( 0 ) US $100.00 Nov-14-04 15:23:19 PST
sirzapalot ( 7 ) US $100.00 Nov-14-04 16:53:57 PST
orangezoodaybikeing ( 0 ) US $56.00 Nov-14-04 08:14:01 PST
orangezoodaybikeing ( 0 ) US $55.00 Nov-14-04 08:12:17 PST
bullitprof135 ( 0 ) US $52.00 Nov-14-04 14:25:36 PST
orangezoodaybikeing ( 0 ) US $51.50 Nov-14-04 08:01:27 PST
dlfinder4 ( 1 ) US $50.00 Nov-13-04 21:25:06 PST
daskidude ( 0 ) US $50.00 Nov-14-04 07:08:30 PST
sgtotero ( 7 ) US $5.00 Nov-13-04 20:46:40 PST

So he waited till he got $400 until he revised the auction details. It also might be safe to say that the (0) feedback bidders could be bogus accounts to up the bidding amount. If you look at his feedback, he only sold 2 items, the rest were purchases.

Yep. Fortunately the zero feedback peeps have nothing to lose refusing to pay the guy. Definately clever, from making the auction title "Dye DM4 SWEET GuN *Pics*" he can claim that he said they were Pics in the title, and he never said it he was selling the actual gun, just implied that he was by listing the specs, posting pics of a dope *** DM4, and putting the auction in the "Marker's" category.

The point is, he was trying to scam people from the start. Thanks Titansu for posting the times of the bids vs. the time of the revision, I looked at them before posting this thread and I should've listed that info to avoid having people tell me that:

technically this person has done nothing wrong considering he does mention the fact that it isnt really for a marker.

It boils down to ethics. I am not one to think this guy deserves some kids $510 because he's a little bit clever in orchestrating his eBay scam. He wouldn't have fooled me if the revision was included at the beginning of the auction:

"THIS AUCTION IS ONLY FOR A SERIES OF DM4 PICTURES AND NOT FOR THE ACTUAL GUN. PLEASE DO NOT BID IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO BUY A MARKER. I HAVE GOTTEN MANY EMAILS REGARDING THIS SUBJECT. THANK YOU"

And since I snipe items on eBay he wouldn't have fooled me at all. The point is, he's going to win a contract for someone to pay him $510 for some pictures of a DM4 printed out with an inkjet printer. That's not cool with me, and the reason I posted this is so that those involved with the auction could be more aware of the situation so that nobody gets screwed over. Just because some people are inexperienced with eBay doesn't mean they deserve to lose $510 as an expensive lesson.

I just hope they are pictures from DYE's website so he is in violation of their copyrights ;)

Just my two cents.

It ain't a scam. Just a good way to make money off of stupid people.

wad04
11-16-2004, 08:43 PM
penguin, you're completly wrong. It was a scam because he started selling his dm4 until someone bidded on it and then changed it to just pics of a dm4 thus making it a rip off. ;)

and even if he told the bidders it was pics of a dm4 the whole time, its a little thing called ethics. which clearly some of you don't have.

Auction ended, final price of $710 for some DM4 pictures. I e-mailed the high bidder when I was at work, so if he sends money he's truly a fool.

didnt read all that...but he still has it in the "markers" so regardless he was definitely trying to pass it off as a dm4 so he is for sure trying to scam people.

Well, since the pictures are *of* a marker and the only other place he could put them under paintball is under "other", I'd say the seller wasn't too far off.

Yeah, I see REDz pants in the "Gear Bags" section all the time... nothing is where its supposed to be. Hell, I think I even saw a fishing rod in there once.

like i said before, i woulda thought it suspicious with the different dm4s in different pics. however, when i bid on anything on ebay, i watch it and usually check on it when ever i come online, and therefore wouldve seen the change in the auction had i bid on it.

I guess eBay should make a "Paintball Memorabilia" section ;)

The first guy tried to type that disclamer in small font - but it still came through. If you really wanted to rip someone off... I would use white font. Select below the banana to see what I wrote:

HEY LOOSER, YOU ARE ONLY BIDDING ON DM4 PICTURES... NOT THE ACTUAL GUN. I HOPE I RIP YOU OFF FOR AT LEAST $500 SO I CAN SPEND IT ALL ON BOOZE AND HOOKERS. THANKS FOR BUYING MY PICTURES, YOU WORTHLESS PIECE OF CRAP!!

Get it?

Lol, your white font actually shows a bit on this grey backgroung :D ... personally I try to help out my friends as much as I can with ebay...

Like those auctions that say " You are not bidding on an actual xbox, you are bidding on a link to receive a free xbox that will be sent once the auction has ended" ...

like wtf? come on... how would that ever work? Meh, bad bad people.
