Hello all,
I was browsing through Ebay, and I came upon some Ghillie suits, now these seemed to be of high quality, but I dont know how effective they would be.

-I used to have a Ghillie suit, it kept getting snagged on branches, and weighed me down quite a bit.

-What do you all think about using Ghillie suits?
Should I purchase one, or are they just another waste?

A waste unless you like to lay in the woods, sweat a lot, and play like a bush. Personally, I like to run around a lot and shoot at folks.

Waste,

At my field the other day some guy had a Ghillie suit and he just looked like a big ball of string runing around..you could see him better than anyone else

The funny thing about those is that people don't seem to realize they only work when you're very, very still. I've seen so many running bushes it's pretty funny.

Like everything else, ghillie suits have their uses. They're designed to make you appear as unhumanlike as possible and blend with your surroundings, but it only works if you either move very very slowly or not at all.

I use one exclusively during large scenario games where I usually play a spy (inteligence gathering and assassination) role in which you have to not be seen at all in order to accomplish the mission. I've been able to infiltrate the enemy's basecamp and sit just outside within earshot and listen in on plans and actions reported. This is a game of patience that can pay off big when your target steps out into your line of fire unescorted. One shot, one kill :)

In normal paintball, they are useless.

If you do lots of scenario games, then you might want one. As stupid as it sounds, they actually seemed to come in handy then, espeically at dusk.

Pretty sure...:D

I think you mean the singing bush. These running bushes did'nt sing. That would have been a sure giveaway.

Good luck finding a field that will allow you to wear it during a game. Too many bouncers.

I was also thinking of the bouncing issues. A real gillie suit would be very thick and soft. It's not really sporting to wear something that a paintball probably will not break on. I know that's not why you would wear it but it is a problem.

A ghillie suit is to be used in the woods, it is the ultimate camo, check out www.ghillesuits.com

It's really a waste unless you play in deep woods with like crap all over, when i play in woods is semi cleared out

I hate ghillie suits, but they do have one thing that noone has seemed to mention, it can be very very hard to get paint to break on them. but please, that is cheap. dont but one!!!

About the bouncing issues. Is there a possible way to make a "paintball proof vest" which would let the paint bounce off you instead of breaking. And is it legal to use it in turneys or on fields? Just wondering.

A friend of mine made one, and it works great. People have stepped on him and not noticed him. But the thing weighs something like 30lbs. When he does have to run, he can barely move in the thing.

ok that reminds me of my favorite capture the flag (non paintball) story. one guy on the other team wore a guilee suit and we all were just in regular camo. well i got out, i forgot how i got tagged out because we had sertain rules for it. anyways i was sitting in the "graveyard" waiting for the next game when i heard a scream, about 15 seconds of silence and then 2 people cracking up. well i look araound at the rest of the dead players (i should probably mention that we had one guy left and they had 4) and we all sprinted to the sound. i was the second to get there and the first dead man was already doubles up with laughter. i looked at the confusing scene. there was the last guy on our team on his back, holding the flag with a huge gash across his cheek laughing on the ground. next to him lay the man in the guilee suit with out his head shroud on laughing too. i asked what had happened and everybody gathered around as the guy from our side caught his breath.

"i was running toward our station because i had just got the flag and i thought i was home free. then i saw our station and jumped a log to get there faster.... and... well... the log reached up and grabbed me."

we all doubled up with laughter as the the first dead man on the scene spoke...

"i saw the whole thing it was funny. i had just gotten out because of him and was walking away. i heard someone running toward me and turned around. then i saw him comming through the trees and jump over this pile of leaves that is this dude. well his hand shot up and grabbed him and he went head long into a tree."

Arman - Depends. Would I wear a ghillie suit ona speedball field? Only if it was some attempt to draw undue attention to me so my team could win. Would I use it on a wooded rec field? Probably not because the games don't last long enough to creep to a good spot.

Would I wear one during a scenario game played on wooded fields? Absolutly. Without a doubt the most fun I have ever had was with my ghillie suit, my sniper M98 and a really good scope. Tagging guys from a distance in an open field when they think they are all alone is fantastic.

Remember, in a ghillie you move slow and steady. Think mollasses running uphill in January and move slower than that.

One other thing. I just looked at the suits they have on ebay and they are crap. Here is why. The human body is distinguished by two characteristics. The "Head and Shoulder" profile and our two dimensional appearance from a distance. The "Head and Shoulder" profile is created by these melons we call heads and if you look at the really good ghillies you will notice that they totally illeminate that profile. Most of the crap on Ebay was just a hooded camo poncho with triangles cut into it to try and give it a third dimensional quality. It did absolutely nothing to eliminate the head and shoulder profile.

If you want to try your hand at making your own ghillie here is what you do. Get some beat up old camos or light weight jerseys. Get 1 inch square netting and sew it onto your clothes. Then take burlap of different colors and lengths and tie it to the netting. You can use threads or thicker strips. The great thing about the thicker strips is that you can shread some of them into thinner strips.

Above all you want to make sure that you eliminate your heads profile.

www.bushrag.com has some goo kits but you can get most of these materials from any home sewing suppliy store.

Miscue - The Three Amigos had a singing bush, not a running bush.

Hahahaha! The log grabbed me!...laugh...laugh... My friend at school one time was playing paintball at a camp once were ahead in bodies. So then they decided to make a push.3 guys stormed a bunker and shot the players in there. Then one dude heard a sound in a bush. The other guys told him to go get the guy in the bush.So the dude goes over to the bush and tells the bush to surrender. He repeadletly tells the bush to surrender until he gets frustrated and shoots the bush constantly. He hears other sounds around him and thinks there are more players.By thgis time the game is over and they are looking for the troubled kid. When they find him he is on the ground telling the bushes around him that he surrounds and begs them for mercy.Poor kid...

I personally think they are a waster because i play speedball and hyperball and airball and rec ball and all I like to do is shoot people, run at them.

Ghillies suits have a place in scenarios and only there. They are a valuable asset if you want to sneek in the woods. They visually break up the human form. You can move a little and the wind moves the branches but no running bushes. Also remember that you have it on. Nothing funnier than a ghillie on a trail.
As far as breaks. Here is the rule.
GHILLIE SUITS:
ALL ghillie suits must be inspected and approved by the game director prior to entering the field of play. If you are wearing a ghillie suit, ALL hits/impacts count during day and night play. No paintchecks! One impact, you're gone.
They are fun but hot and stinky and you get caught on things. Invest in good camo and learn how to use it is my advice.

I would vote against getting a Ghillie suit.

Depends on what type of game and time limit you have! Obviously on a speedball field its kind of useless. If you don't have a lot of time in the game, you probably won't want to use it since you'll eat up more time trying to stalk and wait to shoot. If you where playing a scenario game/mega game or game with lots of time then ya a ghillie might be good. However consider this: 1)if you buy one they're usually fairly expensive. 2) You could make one, which is cheaper but very time consuming. Also there is upkeep maintenance 3) you and your team for that matter will have to learn a new style of play.

My suggestion is that you check out several webpages on ghillies and see the pros and cons. Remember just because you have a ghillie on doesn't make you invisible!

if a person shoots at me, i shoot at em till i hit em once. If a bushy shoots at me, im guna shoot at it till im SHURE its either out, or wilting.
