View Full Version : my "intellilight" mod

heres a lil background behind this mod:

i got the idea to do this when everytime id go to play, people would ask me what kind fo angel is that? or what kind of shocker is that? so i figured since they were already mistaking it for an electronic marker, why not make it more believable?

originally when i had the angel grips on the marker, i had 3 led's a red that was on until the trigger was pulled, a green one that flashed every second, and a blue one that would turn on when the trigger was pulled. since then, i have gotten frymarker grips, and have had some problems with the red and green led. so i simplified the design to only have the blue led that turns on when i fire the marker. i plan on eventually putting enough led's inside the frame to make the gun basically glow.

lol that looks great. I just wish I could see some of the pictures better. I mean they are plenty big enough, but really dark. Maybe once you get the mag glowing it will be light enough to take better pictures to show us where the battery goes. Good job though.

That looks awesome! Maybe offer it as a service for those of us with vert frames and money to burn? ;)

the battery is actually in the bottom of the grip covered with electrical tape. its just a 12v camera battery. the friction of the tape against the frame holds it in place with no movement.

ill see what i can do on better pictures later today

Nice mod, when I had my Dallara, I wanted to put 3 LEDs in the frame just like that, red white and blue, never got around to it though. Could you show us what materials you used? or did you just go straight from switch to LED ?

The best part will be when they come up to you after a game and say, "man that Gat has a Sick rate of fire... Did you get the Vision installed in that?"

the first pic shows my spare battery next to the frame, the installed batter is covered with electrical tape and sits at the bottom of the frame.

the second pic is a close up of the electronics. the red wire goes from battery to switch. the white wire goes from switch to led. and the blue wire goes from led back to the battery.

pictures 3 and 4 show the intellilight pulled out of the frame showing the piece of clear plastic that i used to mount the led(came from the package for my quickie pen drive). the extra holes are from when i had the 3 led's installed. in the 4th pic you can notice that the plastic takes a bend at the bottom of it. this bended piece rests on the left grip panel, and helps to support and stabilize the whole thing.

as of right now, nothing is soldered together, however once i get some time when i go home either for winter break, or spring or summer, i plan on making this mod better by soldering the wires, and making a piece so that the battery just snaps in instead of having to use tape.

just for reference. the led(s) used are just standard 5mm led's. when i had the blinking one, it was just a blinking led that you can buy. the switch is the same switch as specified in the intellifeed instructions. the battery is an energizer A23 12v camera battery( i think a 2 pack was maybe $3). the wire used came from an old radio not sure what gauge, but im sure you can tell that its really small.

plans for the new version that will make my frame glow are being thought of right now, the main thing im trying to decide on is what kind of mounting system im going to use to hold the led's.

Looking good. I think I might want to use this mod for a project I'm working on.

Question, I may be mistaken but can this be used with the intellifed Revvy mod?(simply curious)

White_Noise
12-07-2004, 02:53 PM
havent tried it with the revy as well. i supposed you could just wire the led into the circuit as well as the hopper, seeing as its a 12volt hopper in the case of a revy, it should have enough power for the led.

if i was to do that, id probably run the hopper and led in parrallel and not in series with each other so that should the led malfunction, the hopper would still work. possible problem with this would be that there would be less power available to both the hopper and led though. id suggest experimenting with it to see which works better. id try it myself, but im using a halo, and the revy that i had doesnt work.

ive been playing at dedicated paintball lately in madison cause im going to school in madison, but i actually live in kenosha, and play at bfg, some times at promised land, still technically work for action territory. ive been to siege once, other than that ive been playing in IL alot or practicing at my house.

now that i have seen the frame i remember you from promised land. i saw it in person and it looked good. now you just have to get something like the speeds have to glow when you shoot fast.

lol....ive actually only been there twice, but im good friends with the guys that go by the name "bad boys" and where the bad boys II t-shirts. and we usually stage in by the wood pile between the building and the chrono area.

as i have just bought a new frame from logic, this frame is now for sale!

i will include the light kit for whoever buys it, note that it will come with blue angel grips, not the frymarker grip.

i will have a FS thread up in a bit, and will post links connecting these 2 threads.

here are some pics, i just redid the 3 led mod that i had before.

this pic shows the red led on, though it is in between the green light flashes:

this pic show the blue led on and the green led on(im pushing the switch down with my finger to simulate the trigger being pulled):
<a href="http://www.jayloo.com/files/pics/14000/P1010006_8435.JPG"> <img src="http://www.jayloo.com/files/pics/14000/P1010006_8435_rs.JPG" width="400" height="300"> </img></a>

this pic shows the wiring inside the grip. Note: the toggle switch that is sitting at the bottom is not there when the grip is put on, i have it under the front portion of the grips, i used to have it attached to my dropforward when i had it on my marker:

Awesome.

Could you give me an exact list of parts you used? My logic frame should be coming in very soon and I have always wanted to do this. Thanks.

Creative Mayhem
12-08-2004, 05:09 PM
Hey M/C Lover, you should make a "how to" thread in the Workshop forums, with your new frame. But for now a How to, with parts list and basic wiring layout would work for those that wish to do this mod. Just an idea.

White_Noise
12-08-2004, 05:49 PM
ok guys...seeing as everyone wants a parts listing and how to, ill be putting one up in the workshop section and be putting links between the 2 threads. i wont have it up until after 730 tonight(cenral time) as i have a calc exam to go to at 5:30.  but hopefully i wont drink too much when i get back  and will be able to put up the how to thread.

Is this a simple thing to do? And will it work in other markers?

White_Noise
12-08-2004, 10:55 PM
just replied to your pm......it is fairly simple, not sure how easy it would be to setup on other markers, but im sure that it is possible with some sort of modification to the design. the reason its easy on mags is because of the mounting place already in the frame for a microswitch for intellifeed.
