Is it normal to have your lvl 10 work with no shims in it?

If you have a chopping problem with very fragile paint, the shims will help vent earlier in the bolt cycle. With standard paints...you dont need any .

So if it leaks down the barrel like craze with the smallest carrier, it can be just the shims?

Whenever you setup an LX or need to debug a leak problem, install it with no shims.

I don't have a shim in any of my guns and never will.

Most people don't understand shims. They think they change the bolt force or something extravagant like that. All they are is a tolerance changing device. Kinda like putting shims in your trigger to take out the side to side slop. Every gun is different and the way the vent hole lines up with the o-ring in some guns can prevent it from being able to vent when it pinches a ball. In this situation, you install a shim, it moves the o-ring seal point back, thus moving the vent point in the cycle to an "earlier" point in the stage.

That's all they do. Nothing more and nothing less. I'd say 90% of the guns don't need them. Will it hurt anything if you have them installed, but the gun doesn't need them? No. Will they cause a problem if too many are installed and your gun doesn't need them? Yeah, it's called a leak.
