View Full Version : Gold Plated Trig+ Frymark Grips=Mmmmmmmmm
I finally got my hands on a digicam now that I'm home for the holidays. The grips are blue/purple colorchange lady .45s & they are really awesome, the pics dont do them justice. I plated the trigger myself w/ a brush plating kit I bought online. It took a LOT of trial & error, I was like  :cuss:  :shooting: more than once. A word of advice to those that may want to do this too, DON'T! Learn to plate on a material other than aluminum.
Props to Heather for the stellar grips & to darrickws for the Q

If the rest of the marker were blue or purple I would say props , but the grips look like something leftover....
The trigger is cool. Try doing the gripframe screws , or a few other things to accent the gold. It needs to be "accessorized". :p

now ditch the q-loader....
what.... somone had to say it
hehe, me likey the Q. Ricker, yeah I did it myself. The whole thing would be nice, but impractical, since I have no way to take critical dimensions back to spec. The difficulty also goes up exponentially w/ size when brush plating. I may do it sometime in the future when I have more cash & time(not looking forward to polishing the body :( ). The grips were acquired first, and I feel that they & the trigger add a touch of color to an otherwise 'dull' gun. So screw you punkncat!!! :p j/k

cool
I was wondering about those brush plating kits as well
Brush plating a material that doesnt need a base plate is super easy, it gets hard when bases are needed, & when aluminum is involved. The piece should always be polished to the desired end finish (matte-mirror) before plating begins.
Aluminum is then treated with a zinc solution to remove the oxides present in the surface of the metal. Then it must be immersion plated (usu w/ copper)to avoid possible contamination. Then the final surface finish must again be achieved w/ the copper very carefully. Trust me, it's easy to burn through, even hand polishing. Then the final plate. I don't recommend the use of ANY abrasives on the finished piece, a high shine, or whatever, should have already been achieved, & that will carry over to the final plate. With gold, it's even easier to burn through :tard:
I think I need to go back to bed...
