That is pretty cool. Do you have a larger version of it that could be used for say, a desktop wallpaper?

Neat thing I found while searching google:

http://www.wholeo.net/Trips/Art/Web/TripsArt/Imagine/RitualSpaces/GaiaPoint/earth/earth1mapNight.htm

Same image it seems, but more interactive.

Edit: And upon further searching I found an extremely good picture of it:

I find the most interesting portion of that image to be the stark contrast between North and South Korea.

Oh wow, I hadn't noticed that until you pointed it out. That's what happens when one country spends their budget on military and the other spends [the United State's] money on economy. Which gives further proof that when the two countries decide to unite (if ever) that it will be on the Souths terms, not the Norths, as long as the US keeps a military presence in the South.

I've got that as a poster in my den... absolutly beautiful.

If you look real closely in the water you can see oil rigs and japanese fishing boats as dots of light.

I think this is the original source:

APOD 2000 November 27th:

http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap001127.html

They have links to high res versions there. It's a great image.

Edit:
One of the links: http://visibleearth.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/viewrecord?5826 has a 40Mb 16384w x 8192h TIFF of the image. How's that for high res?

There is another like this somewhere which shows a large void in the North East US / Southern Ontario from that enormous blackout...what, a year ago now?

That would've been cool to see too, but that "blackout" picture is fake.

Ah well...if nothing else, it's hopefully an accurate depiction of the affected area.
