First off, just so everyone knows... I am NOT trying to make an immature thread here.

Ok so this is what I am wondering. A while back I recall hearing something about how an athletic team from some other country playing football (non- american) was not permitted to have sex with their partners within a month of a game (or something to that effect). This was said to be because their performance as an athlete would suffer.

Now this was a while back and I am curious to find out if it is in any way or form true. I figure that since xball is becoming much more of an athletic style of paintball where the players must be in shape, that this may have something to do with how you do on the field.

If you find this too offensive then I do apologze in advance.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/more/news/1998/06/02/sex_sports_pkg/ A 1998 article, but it's got the soccer examples you were talking about.

http://www.allprotraining.com/sexeffect_mauro.html A little TOO clinical, but it's probably the better article.

Easy lookup, "Yahoo" and "Google" are your friends. Just ignore any result with the word "Cialis" or "v1@gra" in it....

What do lawyers and sperm have in common?

If I remember right from school and it's been awhile. If you don't use it the body naturily recycles it per say. The body is constantly making more. I would say the reasoning of this practice of no sex before a game is more so to focus on the game more than anything else. Example when I was activly getting some on a regular bases my mind was else where alot. If you kicked me in the face I would have just smiled and went on my way. Now if you did that I rip your head off.

well some believe that sex prior to anything ahtletic will be using needed energy. since sex does burn calories it is taking away from calories needed to play the sport. so you would feel an effect towards the end of your game/match.

others believe that the good feelings obtained through sex will allow you to clear your head and perform better.

Lets be honest,

Most paintball players are not at the "top of thier game" physically. I would guess there are other issues, like basic physical fitness that needs to be addressed first.

I think the whole concept of this was brought up by Sigmund Freud. He believed that if he didn't have kind of sex, that he would overall be at the top of his game. I think the practice was called sublimination (repression of the ID).

Then again, he might have just been thinking mentally.

But either way, I've heard that sex or "pleasuring" yourself reduces physical ability. It's never been fully explained to me, but my coach thinks it's true. Maybe because you're frustrated, more aggressive, some type of hormonal situation. Or maybe it's the slight amounts of protein you aren't wasting anymore.

...you DO realise that Freud was infinitally more screwed up than anyone else who his "theores" may have helped?

I think it's more of a "dicipline" issue, actually. If a coach can make his team do as he asks / orders, then they show that they do trust his coaching ability and will follow him. I don't think it's a physical performance issue at all.

Hell, If i masturbate (yes, masturbate, not have sex), I seem to perform slightly sub par, like I did once before lacrosse, didn't do so well. But It's not so much physically, but mentally for a short period after, EXP- I played CS after and noticed my reflexes were not as fast as they should be.

I was the Captian for my soccer teams and the only difference that I noticed was if I did not get it before the game Iwould get it after. :D

Performance-wise no big difference.

What are you saying; That at 350lbs. I'm not in peak physical condition anymore? I really miss the days when I was 230.

...Not trying? Well, yeah...it comes naturally...

...I heard that for men having sex increases running abilities...but it is the opposite for women...I cannot seem to recall where that information came from but i believe it was a study of some sort...

Interesting point... But as far as discipline goes, I'm 99% sure most people on the team don't listen (if they're presented with the opportunity to do so). :)

I hear Freud's wife didn't like his little sublimination game either.

If you made it as far as the olympics I'm sure the athletes would have enough discipline to keep from having sex... after all they did commit anywhere from four years to their entire lives working to get to that point. If anything, no sex is one of the easiest rules to keep if your in the FREAKIN OLYMIPCS!!! WOOT!!! :headbang:

Anyone looking forward to the olympics... anyone??!
