Got it this week. I dry fired it but haven't played with it yet... will do so on sunday. Overall I'm very impressed with the quality of the marker and from the few shots I fired it shoots great with minimal kick. Only complain is that I wish it was as easy to set-up the trigger like my Bushy was.

And if it isn't safe you'll just throw it away so he won't have to deal with it? I could "test" it too. Double checking things is always the safest way!

Why is the Proto under $1000, and DM4's over a grand? I hate the DM4 in pics, but when I saw it at the 04 World Cup, I liked it..................

IMO, the proto is every good as a DM5, much less a DM4, it costs less because it has the proto name on it rather than the DYE label, and thats preety much it as far as i can see, i actually prefer the proto over teh DM series for the little i have used either.

Great gun, great value.

All the DM's perform basically the same,4/5/Proto,the difference in the price of the Proto is reflected in the fact that is doesn't include the Dye UL barrel,Locking feedneck,Dye Airport ASA, somewhat less costly eyes and a 'flash' only board (no replaceable chip).

It IS a great performer for someone looking to save a few bucks yet it can be fully up'd to near DM5 specs for less overall investment.

Enjoy it. :)

I never knew the eyes were different. Anyways, the rest is correct from what I can remember.

Yes, the eyes in the proto are on ribbons rather than wires, not a big deal if you ask me, and, i agree, clamping feedneck should be bought asap, but, who dosent have their own asa already? Or spare/better cocker threaded barrels, not things which are hard to come by. If i were buying a DM5, or a proto, i would get the proto for the money, i also think it balances nicer than the DM5, but, that once again is personal preferance.

Nothing major, they're ribbon cabled instead of hard wired. It seems as though that connection may be more fragile.

Just be very carfefull taking it apart for cleaning and maintainance.Unplug when ever you can and don't allow 'stuff' to dangle by the wiring while working on it and you should be fine.

Ohhh.... i see. I thought you were talking about the eyes themselves.

I decided to go with it because I wanted to try the whole spool valve thing... as for X-MAgs being better, itīs all about preference right?

For the price I got it I can upgrade it to the max and it still wouldnīt cost me as much as a DM5... well maybe not but still...

On monday Iīll have a good review of the gun after a day of play.

Watch out for the feednecks. I don't know about the Proto's but the DM5 feednecks are all breaking.

Sweet gun, I shoot a matrix, I have shot proto's and everyone else on my team shoots a Dm4 and I can pretty much say that they all shoot very similarly.

How's the paintballing in Brazil? do many people play? are the fields good?

I bought one at the World Cup very sweet marker but the soldering of the selenoid wires suck. Resolder them.

Mines serial number is 123 :D

Yep, I snapped one of the wires off the solenoid. I resoldered it but I kind of did it in a hurry just so I can get through the weekend. Next week Iīll be doing some wire esxtensions and will be re-soldering everything.

the proto's are nice guns.

Get the Musashi programming put in it though, they rip with that....

Also, be very careful about your feedneck, my friend's feedneck fell out last night...he was bummed

Can they except all of the bolt kits that give the 'trix style guns 2k+ shots per 68/4500?

The proto has the same internals as the dm4/dm5, the lpr is moved to the front of the gun and the on/off asa is gone. Its also noticably lighter.

No they can't. The bolt is shorter.

Not that many players since the sport is expensive specially for a poor country but the fields tend to be good. Airball and good grass can be found on the better fields.

Here is a link to a little write-up I did for FON on the last tournament we had in 2004...

Why is the proto lighter then the DMs?

Probably because there's less metal there... DUH!

not quite true, im shure orings are interchangable, but, its not like your going to be able to use a bolt kit from a proto in a DM4 or DM5 (all 3 are different sizes)

also, no, you cannot use matrix bolt kits, and as far as matrix kits giving over 2000 shoter per fill, i had an evolved (old, more efficent style) trix, and my teammate still shoots an evolved trix, neither of us are/did get the numbers im getting from my viking, mabey 1500 off a 68/45 from the trixes.

I tested 1 here with the new predator chip in it and i must say it was an extremely sweet marker. the nice feel with the Predator technology is a good combination.

It does look very good, nice and small. Actually prefer the look over the DM5
