I recently got back into bowling to spend some time w/ the pops.

Growing up I bowled a LOT and was pretty good (took 2nd in State when I was like 12) but then I tore my ACL an stopped bowling for about 8yrs since for a few I couldn't do to waiting for reconstructive surgery, and then I was just too into other things (work, life, paintball). Then after about a year and a half I stopped again until recently.

So now I'm getting back into bowling with the pops until the leagues start and we're goign to do the league thing to spend some time kickin' it and I'm looking for a new ball.

Right now I throw 2 balls (haha shuddup!)
- 16lb Dick Webber LEGACY (Reactive resin)
- 16lb Hammer (straightball, nothing special).

I'm looking for a ball with some serious hook. I've been looking into things and it seems a lot of good stuff is found about the RHINO PTE (pro touring edition). Its still a -reactive resin- ball but its got some great reviews and so forth.

Growing up I used a urethane Rhino and it could really hook. I want something like that. My LEGACY ball (while rare and quite good) is great its just not as 'hook intense' as I'd like. It gets a nice subtle natural hook which is great for those corner shots and pocket shots depending on lane condition, but it just doesn't get the pull I want from my natural throw.

Any recommendations? I've been looking into a 'Hammer Real Deal' which is Urethane, or the Rhino PTE which is imported but also great info on it. Hard to pick... or another choice you may recommend?

I bowl. Badly.

My highest score ever was like 140 or something. And due to some old injury I have a little arthritis in my middle finger on my right hand, and after bowling two games my finger is pretty sore.

Luckily my only messed up finger is my right Pinky finger. I fractured it when I was lil but didn't tell anyone (you know how it is... parents know you got hurt playing sports w/ friends they wont let you...lol) so now the tendon is too tight and my finger wont straighten out all the way.

My highest is like 240 something. I average, with my current ball, somewhere in the 170's but I know I can do better if I can just find something that flows more into my natural form.

I bowl a little 5-pin, badly. :)

It's cool that you are doing something with your Dad. My Dad is a bowler, and it is something we have done together a few times. If we lived in the same part of the country, I think it is something we would do semi-regularly.

BTW - I had no idea that the 10-pin balls were specialised like that, or that a bowler might need more than one ball! Thanks for adding to my general fund of knowledge. If you are ever inclined to try disc golf (frisbee golf), you will find that the discs are specialised the same way. Serious players tend to carry 20+ discs!

Yeah there's all sorts of stuff that goes into the way a ball rolls.

The surface creates the different type of grip it gets..

The way its drilled decides how much of a natural curve your ball gets because there's a weight inside and drilling off certain points move the center of balance off so when you release it naturally curves in a direction.

Plus the way your fingers are drilled makes a difference on how you hold the ball, and release. Like my ball is tipp'd so that at the two top fingers only go in partially cause it rubber tips to allow me to release it and curve it a bit more.

The ball I have now is a resin based ball, and it has a slight left curve on its own. I need something that naturally will grip mroe on 'oily' conditions. My ball now is fine the drier conditions but most lanes are majorly oily when I hit them for some reason so I get minimal hook.

So basically I have a ball type for each circumstance. I'm a right handed bowler. I have a natural left hook that my hand does. So when I hit pins on the left side of the lane if I'm not paying enough attention and let my hand naturally let go I'll go off a bit to the left cause it catches that hook. So I have a straightball that just plows down the land and does its goodness.

I'm pretty sure Miscue was really into bowling at some point in his life. I know he's been involved to a scary degree in certain other "sports," so you may want to ask him. :p

When I was little I liked to bowl. Havn't done in years though, but I wouldn't mind trying it again..

Well I ordered my new ball.

Its a 'Hammer: Real Deal".

Insanely nice hook w/ this beast. Should be here Wednesday and be drilled by the weekend. I'll post Sunday if I got any improvement with my hook back.
