Rest In Peace, Dr. Thompson. Theres no way you passed the entrance exam for Heaven, but Hell's more fun, and its got more of your kind of people.

It's too bad he left at a time when he was sorely needed. He will be missed. May the torch be passed.

Sorry I have trouble feeling pity for him. Life is never so hopeless as to end it yourself.

But yeah, suicide is a mortal sin. :(

I have a feeling thats the last thing he cared about :)

And no reason is given on any of the sites so far. No word if it was depression, drug/alcohol related, terminal illness, who knows.

The title has nothing to do with Cradle of Filth, idiot.

Here we may reign secure; and in my choice
To reign is worth ambition, though in hell:
Better to reign in hell than serve in heaven.

Maybe if your title didn't sound like some retarded arkansas brother-sister inbred lovechild, I would have noticed it.

my two favorite quotes of his are "I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me" and "The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench. A long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side."

anyone read that hey rube book? when did it come out?

Came out a couple years ago, I havn't read it. I've read Fear & Loathing in LV and The Great Shark Hunt, and I followed his ESPN column. His earlier stuff was better than his later stuff. A lot like George Carlin's comedy, he had just gotten more bitter with age.

it is really sad that my thompson has passed on, he was the man, FALILV and the great shark hunt are amazing works of literary art. the movie... well wasnt horrible, but the book was that much better. may he rest in peace

Maybe I should get smashed and watch Fear and Loathing as a tribute or something.

Cradle of Filth is still crappy Black Metal.

And sad to see him go in such a fashion, although it isn't that unexpected.

Either way it is a loss to the literary world.

And just a few weeks after Arthur Miller passed. :(
