If you have a Fiber Wrapped tank, there will be a lable on the tank that will have the manufacture's information on it.
I.E.
DOT-E11005 ____ 3000 PSI
TC-3FMC ______ 207 BAR
6121A-62330 __ M4927 __ 05-CL-01
CARLETON Manfactured by blah blah blah
WARNING: Do not fill if cylinder has visual damage
unraveling or charring of composite fiber. For more
information, please visit www.cylindersafety.com
RETEST EVERY 3 YEARS PER US DOT FRP-1 & E11005
Please note the underscores are there to space the label text.
There will be a line that has a logo of some sort on in flanked by 2 numbers
In this case its a "CL" logo flanked by 05-CL-01
This means that the original Hydro date on this cylinder is 05/2001 (May 2001) and was up for Re-Hydro in May of 2004.
On an Aluminum (Steel even though they aren't steel) tank there's a Stamp on the regulator end of the bottle around the "top" of the large diameter of the tank.

In this picture of a PMI PE tank you can see the Hydro date is 09-CL-04

Here we see it as 3-A-04 on this NitroDuck
http://images.actionvillage.com/inc/images/large/031-201-0011.jpg?cell=500,500&cvt=jpg
And Lastly on this Crossfire as 05-CL-02

Hope this helps
