All I have to do now, is convince him to retire so he can play with them more.

what does he use the hitachi excavator for?
those arn't cheap enough just to buy one and sit it in your garage.

my dad runs heavy machinery, he works at a land fill. I've been around that kinda stuff all my life.

He needed something to dig up a hole for an underground 1000 gallon propane tank. It seems, it was cheaper to him, to buy an excavator rather than rent one.

He's also moved a couple of big rocks around with it. But otherwise, I assume he just plays with them on the weekends.

Ditto. Well, he used to, now he's a teacher. I remember when I was young, he would bring his Kenworth home with him with his Cat excavator on the flatbed, and we'd wash the cab and play on the excavator. When we had half days at school, my mom would pick up my brother and I, and we'd take my dad lunch. If he was working on an excavator, he'd put us in the bucket, lift us up about 20 feet, and spin us around. If he was on a D8 or a D10, we'd take turns sitting on his lap and moving the blade up and down.

Man, if you take away the 19 hour days, the crappy pay, the horrible boss, and never seeing him at home, those were the days.

hey BOFH!

I'm unloading rail cars at work if you want one of them. They don't do much, but you can pull them around in a tractor!

I'll ask my dad if he wants to collect those too. :)

Actually, if we put some rails down at his farm... it'll be the coolest trainset EVAR! To hell with HO scale. It's "real" scale!

Ah, the red one is awesome, it's both a Deisel and Gasoline, Farmall I believe (edit, whoops, It's an International Harvaster, my bad)

And, yes that's a 1938 B. That's the first one in the collection, since that the Tractor my father grew up on in Iowa.

Except my dad has these in upstate NY, so I had to travel 6 hours to go see. And I got to see my dad too. :)
