I'm in the market and was wondering about suggestions. I dont want to spend a truckload of money but I would like a nice MP3 player. Anything under 300 i'll look at, except iPod Shuffle. I am totally against a product that boasts its best feature is something introduced 10 years ago on my CD Player.

I'd go Rio Carbon.

http://www.apple.com/ipodmini/

$199 - 4GB

$249 - 6GB

$299 - 20GB

Also, it's called marketing. Every company on earth does it. Get used to it. It sucks, but hell, it's life

I have a Philips/Nike PSA200 MP3 player for working out in the gym. I like it other than the battery door comes off easily.

I think the Rio MP3 players are nice because they have expandable memory via SD cards.

The carbon will smack the iPod mini in battery life, weight, size, and sound quality.

iPods do look awesome though, and are easy as hell to use, not to mention all the accesories that third parties make for em.

hmm, havn't really looked into the new iPods, just basing my opinions on the older ones, which didn't really impress me. Good food for thought, thanks for the new info.

Look at the sony nw-hd3. 13,000 tracks, 28 hour battery like 13mm thick by 95mm wide (I think) and really light, plus it looks good

I have a 40gig/4Gen Ipod and its still working after a pretty mean water/mud/freezing bath. It was in my car, the morning after an accident at the impound lot, stuck in mud and ice. I got it out, washed it off a bit, put it in a thing of silica for a day, and it works perfect again.

I love it, but many hate them. If you dont want the iPod, go look at the iRiver. Its kind of the 'anti-ipod'. Its black, same number and stats if Im not mistaken, I just would rather trust HP/Apple then some other company. But thats my opinion.

ive got a creative zen xtra

$220 for 30 gigs
250 for 40 gigs
300 for 60 gigs

but then you can prolly find them cheaper if you look around some
I have never had any problems with any creative products, including this and I use and abuse it too.

I have a 1Gig Sony Minidisk player. It's not one of the biggest holders out there, it only holds 45hours of music, but it lasts an unreal amount of time on a single AA battery. Its a great player, and pretty cheap too. I paid $279 CDN funds prolly close to $200 USD

Looks like i'm going with either the Mini Zen or a mini Ipod. I was never against Ipods, just the Ipod shuffle. The rest of my karta fund is going towards a beginner bass guitar :D .

Sony HI-MD minidisc is where it's at for me. Something like 20hs play off 1 AA. 13 hours on one standard disc, 45 hrs on a 1gig. Picked it up at Best Buy for $150.

i have a tiny little 5GB Dell Pocket DJ. currently has 700+ songs on it and still has room left.

only cost me 199 bucks and has a bunch of options in it.

i have an account with them and i thought the Dell was a good way to go. it holds more than the Apple mini and lasts longer in battery life.

or you can get the 20GB for 249 i think.

shuffle. Seriously. Yeah the shuffle thing is lame but I want one so bad.

Shuffle gets people because of the cool advertising of it. But I ended up caving into apple and buying an iPod Mini, got it at a spectacular price. $150, who said PBN was good for nothing?

the ipod shuffle is only 99 bucks.

i guess it appeals to those that dont want something that they could store their entire hard drives on, haha.

i love my dell DJ though.

I have a 20gig iPod and I'm considering the shuffle. I would mainly use it when I run or go to the gym. 512mb for 100 bucks ain't bad at all, plus if its anything like my iPod I know its built well. The more and more I see the shuffle I want one, KISS at its finest.

The problem with the iPod is that you're limited to getting your music from iTunes... I wouldn't get anything that you can't put your own non-expiring music onto. I got my wife a Rio Chiba for Xmas--256MB with expandable memory, and built in FM tuner for only $115. The sound quality is great and the FM tuner is strong. It's shaped funny, but it's small and light weight, plus it doesn't have any internal moving parts to ruin.
I personally am a MiniDisc fan and have a Sony Network MD LP--it's not the HD 1GB, but one MD holds 5 CDs and lasts a helluva long time on one AA!!

Archos Gmini 400, nothin beats it. 20gb, not only plays music, but you can store and see all your pictures, and watch movies. on mine right now I only have about 6gb of music, but i also keep about 12 movies on it and a couple hundred pictures with plenty of memory left over. It gets about 12 hours off of one charge for me, which is plenty of time because i never listen to more than 12 hours of music in one day. I love it for going on trips or long car rides. it is kinda expensive though at $320. :headbang:

Not really. You're CD's and MP3's can play easily. It's not only iTMS.

A problem with ALL music stores is that they sell lower quality music. A CD is better.

Wrong. I'd say ninety five percet of my music on my iPod came from my CD and mP3 collection. iTunes is the main program used to import songs onto your iPod (there are other less popular programs) but that doesn't mean you are limited to songs purchased from the iTunes Music Store.

I agree with you bluestrike, iTMS only sells music @ 128kbs. Kind of weak if you ask me. Granted most people won't know the difference because the mediocre headphones Apple gives you cancel out the benefits of a higher bitrate.

Any headphones except my Shures or other similair quality would do the same. Including Blose. (Bose)
