haha just had to share I saw some guy I know get in a scrap with some guy from NJ last night and he got like 16 stiches and a lot of money in medical bills because the Jersey kid whipped him so bad. hahah I forgot to mention it was a big d-1 linebacker that was out here for some recruiting thing and was just rollin with us he was like 6' 3" 250 and ripped maybe that had somethin to do with it. But my god those were some solid punches, and I know a good fight when I see one, what the hell do you feed your football players out in New Jersey?

sorry just had to share because I know we have sone NJ boys on AO.

haha, speaking of New Jersey. The rest of the CNU Sailing team is in New Jersey this weekend. Just thought I'd relate myself to NJ somehow.

you'd be hard too if you grew up there, Jersey ain't exactly sunny California in the looks departement. Burnt out industrial towns dont really breed happy people or pussies. :argh:

We fight hard here in Jersey. No holdin' back.

Jail isnt much worse than living in some towns. Hell, it's probably safer than walking the streets of Camden.

"Jersey girls aren't trash (trash gets picked up)."
It's so true.

I'd put Camden up against Compton. Camden is barely a US city, its like Mogadishu on US soil.

The state had to come in and throw out the city government and take over a few years back because it was so corrupt. The state police had to take over as the police force.

There were over 100 open air drug markets. Camden is a total cesspool.

And then theres Newark, and Trenton, and Paterson...

They did an episode of Cops in Newark once, and I believe they said they won't go back there because the cameramen got shot at or something.

Yea, thats sounds very Jersey

Jersey kids have that tough guy mentality. No one else has it. Everytime I meet someone new at school and I tell them I'm from Jersey, they always say "O GOD, NOT ANOTHER ONE"

I have seen so many fights living in South Jersey. Everytime there is a party here someone gets laid out. You can never bring people to parties if they are from another town, because they will most likely get there arses handed to them. Jersey kids also like to fight in huge groups.

I went to a catholic high school (the kid who Wicked is talking about's main football rival), and when I was there we were banned from playing sports against another school in north jersey because kids were bringing weapons to games and people were getting hurt.

And this is the private school kids.

Last year when my school beat Pennsauken to go to states in basketball, there was a huge rumble outside of my school. A bunch of kids from Pennsauken jumped the smallest kid in my school and beat the living crap out of him.

I posted something a a year or 2 ago on how my friends and I got a police escort out of Ocean City becasue we kept getting into so many fights. In one night we got into like 5 or 6 fights, most of them weren't even started by us, just finished :headbang:

I was born and raised in Ohio, but I've been to Jersey at least a dozen times for work -- Princeton, Trenton, Cherry Hill mostly.

I have a totally different perception of South Jersey from the places I've visited than what is apparently the norm. ;)

I think the people from Oakland, Richmond and San Francisco are just as hard as anyone. Same goes with the people from Compton and Long Beach and those other places in LA. You need a little more to say that jersey kids are the hardest just based on some little so cal punk getting it handed to him.

princeton and cherry hill aren't exactly the roughest places in the world. hahaha. yeah the huge range in new jersey is amazing considering what a small area it is. and the way we're developing is truly bizarre. they're building half million dollar homes not five miles from my house but down the street there's people with tires in their yards. this is forcing up property values and my parents are paying more in taxes but the neighborhood still looks like crap. suckage. :(

Yea, I bet Ryan can wreck house too. Ryan, havn't you been taking Ju-Jitsu for awhile?

South Jersey is weird. You can go from one of the richest towns in New Jersey to the poorest in 5 minutes. Moorestown to Camden.....5 miles.

Last time I went to a party in Cherry Hill, it wasn't pretty. It started with us being the only white kids in the party, everyone else was mid-eastern, which caused a major problem. They outnumbered us 2 to 1, and they still didn't stand a chance :bounce:

Yea ive been into Jiu Jitsu and Muy Thai almost all my life. I used to fight all the time but I really have taken it easy lately because of the whole football thing. I broke my hand fighting during season and had to play with a cast almost all year and OSU told me if it happens again they dont want me. So needless to say ive been real careful lately.

Bro I lived just south of Compton 4 years ago. Its probably the roughest place ive ever lived. Ive been in and seen a lot of fights that would keep you awake at night thinking about. Im not saying this was a crazy fight or anything it was just an old fashioned *** whipping from start to finish. Props to the Jersey boy. And the kid he beat is a pretty tough kid I play football with him.

I didnt say Jersey guys were the craziest, or that Compton or LBC guys are. Theres nuts people in every city.

Except here in South OC they are few and far between. But you get the idea.

well i've been to a few major cities in the jersey area and in cali. i have to say as much as i was kidding around when i mentioned camden that city is scary. i think it has the most percentage of "i don't want to be here" area of any city i've been to. the area by the aquarium is somewhat safe but you can pretty much forget the rest of the city. most cities have a much wider safe tourist friendly zone than what camden has.

the thing about camden that i'm always going to remember is the one time i got lost there. i was on my way home from visiting mango one summer. it started POURING. i couldn't see a thing. cars were weaving all over because they couldn't see the road. you could only actually see the lines on the road during lightning flashes. so i decided it was not safe to be driving so i got off the at the next exit. of course i couldn't actually read the sign. big mistake. i ended up in camden. it was ok for about 3 blocks. then the road drops down about an inch and i find that the road is the most screwed up road i've ever been on. i'm doing like 5-10mph and the car is bouncing up and down. i drive around in circles for a bit and every time the rain lets up a little i see PEOPLE WALKING AROUND. i'm just glad that at the time i was driving the old chevy celebrity with half it's paint gone and rust spots all over. every person i drove by gave my car a hard look, then went about their business. they probably thought i belonged there with my old beat up car. then again they might have been checking to see if i was part of a rival gang. *shudders* i didn't stop for any intersections or lights man. i just kept right on rolling along. as soon as the rain let up enough i got the hell out of there.

yea LA I think is like Camden but more spread out. You see I know LA very well and all the neighborhoods and what gangs run where and what to wear and what not to wear. So I can drive up to USC with my friends/girlfriend or anywhere in LA really and just take streets and neighborhoods I know arent too bad. I mean I could drive around all day in rough neighborhoods that you wouldnt want to walk around in but your not going to get shot inside your car type of thing, and not have any probs. Then theres the areas where I KNOW not to go. I would be asking for trouble. Theres streets where I would probably be shot just for being white. Ive been in some BAD situations when I was younger and dumber hangin out in wrong neighborhoods.

But then again even LA isnt dubbed "The armpit of America" I mean thats impressive.

MantisMag
04-04-2005, 05:21 PM
yessireebob. there are rough areas in every city. no doubt about it. the problem with camden is that it's almost all like that. that's my argument whenever people say camden is no worse than any other city. sure it's not worse but it just doesn't have the redeeming qualities of other cities. LA has a huge tourist area and a lot of upscale sections. NYC has a lot of upscale areas as well as times square, broadway, chinatown, etc. Philly has south street and all the theaters. Newark has a large business area. San Fran it seems you really have to go looking for it to find a run down area. Camden has the aquarium. you're good for a couple blocks in either direction. even then i would be a bit leery of being there after it closes and everybody goes home.

You guys are all morons, anyone can be tough it makes no difference where you're from. Sure, some people come from rough area's but if some kids a 6'3 250 inside linebacker, chances are he's gonna kick most peoples arse no matter where they are from. Plus, if some guy gets good and mad or hes like fighting for someone in danger or something, he'll probably kick most people's arses too. People act tough maybe because they are, but chances are there probably not. Tough is like some eight year old kid with cancer getting his blood taken every day or somethin, not some guy who knocks people out because he's good at punching people in the head.

P.S.-sorry for the rant.

I beg to differ. Theres legitimately tough kids who get jumped and gang beaten and robbed and what not and fight through it. Some situations in life make people tougher. These situations occur more frequently in rough areas. IE: big cities. Theres also different kinds of tough...mental and physical. I dont know where your going with that really. I mean if you take it to an extreme are you going to tell me that Ken Shamrock isnt tough? Hes good at punching people in the head and doesnt have cancer, so he cant be tough, right?

Although I agree the linebacker is a big kid, that doesnt automatically mean hes a good fighter. I wouldnt of posted this if he wasnt an exceptional fighter, not just big, strong, and athletic. Fighting is a different ball game. I mean cmon we all know those guys who are like a buck sixty but when they throwdown everyone around is like omg where did that come from. Then they knock out some dude twice there size and everyones like wtf.

Yep, just because you are big doesn't mean you can fight. I'm 160 but have 7 years of formal training under my belt, so I will admit I can kick some *** if I have to. I usually don't use my TKD training unless my life depends on it. Fighting is stupid in my book, but its near impossible to avoid it as a teenager

If this kid ever tried to fight me, I'd run as fast as possible
