what length barrels do most of you guys use? my dad thinks that i should use a 18 inch boomy.i said "no, thats rediculous."what are your guy's opinions on this. what are some reasons why you use what you use? efficiency, accuracy?????

12 inch b/c its both accurate and manuverable

use a 14 inch

well a 15 inch but you didn't add that

anyways i like the 14 inch because it's not so long as to hinder your movement, but long enough to place some good shots

i choose 10 because how in the :nono: will you get into that bunker with anything longer. 10 rocks my world

I'm an old school kinda guy, my first upgrade barrel was a 14" and anymore if it isn't a 14" it just doesn't look right to me. Personally I like CP's though after being treated like :cuss: at Huntington by them I'm probably going to have hurt feelings until I see them again in San Diego or San Francisco.

EDIT: I have an 18" barrel on my A-5 and it's VERY unwieldly, a 16" is managable if you're used to playing with a 14" but still too long for my taste, 12 to 14" seems to be a good length for most people that I've talked to.

i use a 10 inch and a 16 inch. I have a small gun and it really works out (back of my mag is on my chest or in my face) so either one wortks for me.

but if you want something straight then get a freak kit or an evil pipe or ano ther barrel kit and size your paint. if you want it to be quiet, get a barrel with more porting.

10.5" custom ported stock barrel(speedball type games)

If a barrel has a lot of porting (such as an 18" Ultralight), it will use more gas because you will have to litterally turn up your velocity.

If you play air ball, use 16-18" barrels.

Yes, I also like the longer barrels for working whatever you're behind be it a bunker or brush/trees.

used to use 12inch pretty much exclusively, and a 10 inch for hyperball/woods. now i use a 14inch for speedball and will probably be switching to a 16 when i play more of a back position.

U people realize that aftert 12 inces lenth has no effect of distance or accuracy. This was proven by exstensive research done by tom, the ball dosent even touch the 2nd half of the barrel. So i hate tellin u this, but your 18 inch barrel shots jsut as far and as accurate as my 12 inch. Plus accuracy isnt in length, it is in paint to bore match.

right now i got a real tight setup. 9 in. truflight barrel, ule warp left, intelilinked warp with a 18v revi. i like a stubbie gun. but than again i don't waste paint on things too far to hit. i like a short barrel.

In a stepped bore barrel (most two pieces) the ball does not touch the larger part of the barrel, or shouldn't at least. Depending on effective length (length before porting or step) the marker will use more energy (air) to get the ball to speed in a shorter distance. If you can find a longer effective length barrel (unported 18 for instance) you could increase efficiency, but not overall range assuming the marker is properly chronographed. It was actually found shorter barrels (effective length again) were more consistent in velocity (tested down to 5" if I recall) and as such may have actually been slightly more accurate under ideal test conditions.

PS: 12" or 14" with about a 5" effective length, oversized bore - that is two sizes larger than the paint slides through with minimal resistance (freak kit) to mimimize breaks and help in cleaning.

I thought that Tom's tests showed that 8" was the length of barrel that influnces the shot. As in the ball accelerates for 8" then the gass is no longer really effecting it.

If you have a barrel that's not stepped and is longer than 8" the ball will have to be moving faster (thus using more gass) at the 8" point to leave the end at 300fps. Obvioulsly if the barrel gets wider after the 8" there shouldn't be much friction.

Max efficiency on a level 7 mag was around 11" unported. Each gun setup has its magic number for maximum efficiency due to barrel length.

14 or 16 inches, depending on where I'm playing. I find it easier to wrap a bunker sometimes with a 16''
