well finally after waiting 2months my motor finally cleared customs and picked it up friday night. I found the motor through a shop on ebay, anyways I got everytrhing for $950 which included the 5spd tranny, motorset, ECU, harness. I inspected everything and even though its dirt on the outside it got better when removing stuff to reveal everything is in good condition. The motor has about 78,000km so thats like 40-50k miles.
Anyways there were a few things that were damaged such as a sensor on the harness. I'm very pleased and eager to get this baby preped and ready to go. Anyways here are some pics. If anyone wants extensive pics of anything on the motor let me know b/c this motor aint gonna be put in for like 1 or 2 months. We werent able to compression test it but I manually cranked to make sure the pistons were seized or fubared. Anyways enjoy.

I am not familiar with import engines so I am gonna just guess that is a sr20det maybe? I have seen kits to drop ls1's into 240's now that would be a fast *** car.

nope thats the motor the SR20DET could of been, the motor I got is called the CA18DET. It was produced before the SR20DET and came in the 1989-91 Silvia S13 and 180sx, after that the SR20det replaced the CA18det b/c the CA costed to much to produce.

in the 13th pic down i see an oxygen sensor. i hate those things with passion. the one on my dodge caravan went bad, and instead of paying way too much to have a shop take the engine apart to install it, my dad and i decided to do it ourselves and not take the engine apart.
that job was a big PITA. dodge just had to put it in a place where you cant look, and just barely feel. that job discouraged me from learning how to work on engines :(

you sir are correct I'm impressed. It was a ***** to take off as well I had to use a crescent wrench and a hammer to break it loose. I'll be even more impressed if you can tell me what the black rectangle box is in the 11th pic. I'll give ya a hint its near the Cam sensor.

That is quite the motor you've got, there.

What is it, 300000 CC's?

Front ram technology?

Oxygen-driven hyperboost?

Sweet.

Nice. I had a sentra SE with the SR20D, and that was a hell of an engine. If this is even better, its bound to rock. I just wish I had to skills to put together a car like that.

Just get a socket on it and use a pipe... It's not like space it a problem when it isn't in the car.

Not a bad CA18DET. Would have gone with a black top SR20DET, but the CA18's heads are better and don't experience rocker arm troubles once past redline. What are you gonna do to it? Bore it out? Standalone EFI? Forged pistons and rods? Bigger turbo?

yea an SR would have been a good choice. but since the CA was only $950, i would have went with that too. but personally i would go with a turbo'd KA (rebuilt of course) :headbang:
