I am doing a project for one of my classes, and was wondering if anyone here has any info on the history of paintball. I have already read most of the things on Google, and the stuff on AGD's site, but I figured I could get some more info on here.

See, I wasn't sure what was right and what was wrong. I read a couple different things on google, and I figured that by asking here I would recieve some good information. Also, I don't know if there is something that is NOT on one of those sites.

I will try searching that though, I don't remember a thread like this.

their guess is better then ours

but paintball history in 5 seconds is that:

famers used them to mark cattle, lawyers started shooting each other, thus ensued ...

PAINTBALL!!! :D

some people got bored one day and decided to build some guns that shot stuff and one day they dumped paint into a gelatin ball and shot it through their guns and it did cool stuff and so the sport of paintball was invented.

or...

some people just got trigger happy one day

obviously that isn't true, and i can't help you when it comes to true, but i'm not having such a great day and this is definitely helping. lol sorry.

The Feb '05 issue of APG has an interview with Charles Gaines, one of the three guys who invented the "survival game", and he tells how they started. If you can get a copy of that issue that'll be good. If not, PM me and I'll type you up a synopsis.

Look on the draxxus website under history. I used that as a source for a paintball paper and it had some very good information on it.

Has anyone mentioned www.vintagerex.com? It may be a bit off the mark for what you're looking for, but it certainly is loaded with primary sources for paintball history. It's sort of in the construction phase, but still fun to browse. Just thought I'd mention it.

This site http://paintball-guns.com/paintball_history.html has a basic history of paintball intyo the mid-90s, and it is accurate to the best of my knowledge.

If you can find it, "The Complete Guide to Paintball" would be a good source as well. It has an excellent chapter on Gaines & Noel and the first ever paintball game.
