Hello AO,

Well apparently bargain hunting bit me in the *** today. I sent my gun for anodizing on the 25th of April and it finally came back today. Everything seemed nice until I opened the box. When I looked at the parts they were covered with oil. I'm not sure how anodizing companys do things so I have no idea whats up with that. Well i'll let the pictures speak for themselves.......

Any advice on how to approach this??? I have all the e-mails and money order slips. Thanks

That's terrible. Demand a full refund and send it to a new vendor.

Before your write it off as a total loss, try wiping some motor oil on it (whatever weight, doesn't matter) and letting it set for an hour or so.

The oil gets into the open pores and kinda clogs them up (sounds bad, but its a good thing). It will bring back the gloss, or at least take the dingy look out of a dust finish (its hard to tell exactly what finish that is).

Looks to me like they let their bath temp got away from them, resulting in a very big pore size on the ano layer. I'm surprised it took dye at all.

I have seen some truly hideous ano jobs saved by the motor oil trick though. Glob it on, and let it set for a while to soak in.

I would still ask for my money back, but this might save you a reano.

In fact, I would have been embarrassed to send a marker out the door looking like that.

By all means post the name of the house, so no one else walks down the same path.

please tell me who it is, so i will never have to deal with anything like that, especially considering im thinking about getting a custom anno in the near future.

Sorry, but that looks like crap. See if there's a local place that does anodizing. I took my Dark Cocker to a local guy and he did everything for $40 and had it done the next day. I've sent 12+ people to him and he's never disappointed anyone.

I went to Yahoo yellow pages, put in my city, and then searched for "anodizing". Prolly 15 or so popped up and I just chose the guy who seemed to know his ****.

Well heres what I got back from the company...

"Rob,

Parts were CERTAINLY not in that condition when shipped. I would like to get your phone number to figure out exactly what happened. We would be happy to re-anodize the work free of charge, but I definately need to establish what exactly what happened to those parts. I would appreciate if we can sort this out today. You may call us @ 906.228.9991 or leave me your number and Ill foot the long distance bill. "

Second e-mail....

"Upon further inspection of your pictures, it appears you have experienced an anodizing failure known as dissolution. Dissolution occurs when the sealer does not seal properly. We pack parts in oil to remove smut that may be caused by buildup of sealer, and it appears that the oil penetrated the sealer during shipping and caused the finish to become blotchy/discolored. We apologize for the inconvience, and remind you that we are a bit new to the anodizing community (thus our VERY competitive pricing), this is not something we have experienced before. If you would like to resubmit your parts, Ill be sure to put a rush on them and foot the return shipping bill. If you have any other questions, feel free to respond to this email or contact me at the number provided in the previous email."

I'm going to send it back to them to have them re anodize it. If it doesn't meet up to my standard i'm moving on. Right now I will respect this company and not give them bad press as of yet.

Coolhand: I tried the oil on the parts. Restored the shine a little bit but not a noticeable difference.

Runit: If you get an anodizing i suggust Max, A+, dirtproducts.

Maggot6: If/when I ever get this gun sold, my SFL will have a trip to max anodizing ;)

Scatterplot: Love the picture..

and yes my anodizing sucks.. :(

Nice to see that they are going to make an effort to fix this problem instead of leaving you out to dry... Hopefully this guy isn't just talking a good game... Good luck... :)

The only thing dissolutioned is this guy for making a comment like this.

I know out of context, but I guess I have to give them credit for wanting to make it right.

Good luck

I think it was a very responsible and professional reply to an error. They took responsibility, said they would redo it for free (and pay shipping) and then explained the error to you. I don't see how much more could have been asked for in the way of a reply. I'm actually very impressed with a company that will take responsibility for a mistake, and fix it.

JoeyBear

That's very cool of them to accept responsibility and also take care of their mistake. +1 to them. Now, let's see what it looks like when they re-do it.

I say everyone, even a business, has a learning curve. If they are new to anno and make a few mistakes, it's to be expected, but hopefully they learn from it and become better at it. It's a mark of good customer service when a company will do what is necessary to correct the mistake and make it right for the customer.

I think the company did the right thing and did it without even having to be “made” to do the right thing. Mistakes happen, even with the best of companies. It is how mistakes are handled that sets companies apart. And this company showed that it is serious and will do the right thing… good job.

But you DID already give them bad press.

I can understand the anger of getting things that are not what you expected, but good form would dictate that you contact the company FIRST…. And THEN if you didn’t get things resolved in the manner you expected, you post online. Because you can not un-ring the bell. And you sure rang this bell pretty loud.

And I am surprised that no-one even mentioned that. Can you imagine the flack he would have gotten if he posted something similar about Tunaman, RogurFactor, or Luke? The FIRST thing folks would have said was to contact THEM about it and see what they had to say, or how they would handle it.

But at least the company did the right thing and maybe they got some good press because of it after all. I just hope others who experience issues with other businesses give the company a chance to do the right thing (most of the time they don’t even know something bad happened) before posting about it online.

Well I guess in a way but he never mentioned any names. In fact I thought I saw him post that he wasnt going to mention the Name until he found out how they would handle it but its not there anymore. Someone else played Dick Tracy.

Dick Tracy is not really needed to find out who they were… he did, after all, post their phone number. ;)

But like I said, this may end up being best for them in the long run anyways… they are showing themselves in a good light in my book. As long as their re-do turns out good that is.

I will state again though that it is probably best to let businesses take care of “problems” before running off to the internet with issues. More so if they have not even been made aware of the problems yet.

Well now he knows about phone numbers to. He still didnt post a name someone else did. The number gave it away. His mistake.

Well now he knows about phone numbers to. He still didnt post a name someone else did. The number gave it away. His mistake.

It is all a learning process. Some of the things us “more seasoned” folks take for granted are not taken for granted by those who may not be as familiar with different things. I hope others also got useful insight into the process from this thread.

And for you younger folks… your parents are a great place to start with things like this. Chances are they have dealt with similar situations outside of paintball. You don’t always have to run to the internet and type away…. Mom and Dad are probably a whole lot closer and can give better advice on many things than what you get with knee-jerk reactions online. This does not mean that you CAN’T get great advice online, but it isn’t always the best place to start for many issues.

Also, when dealing with companies and even other people, the best start is to tell them what is wrong in a calm and polite manner. Then let THEM take the next step. Most of the time they will do the right thing (as was shown in this thread). But if you try to “force” them to do something, or are a jerk about it, things will start going downhill fast. You may still end up getting what you want by being a jerk, but it may take a whole lot longer and be a whole lot more hassle than it was worth.

I just wanted to show you guys the undoctored e-mails that the company gave me. But apparently AO users are crafty ;) I've handled it with the company and everything is set. As a matter of fact it may have been a god sent because i'm trading this gun with a free ano for an xmag...HOPEFULLY.

I understand where you are coming from shartley. I just turn to AO when I have problems because it calms me down by seeing everyones comment. But all in all i'll get the parts by the end of this week and update you all.

Thanks
