Those cushions look like pieces of leftovers. And it doens't look like something I'd decorate my home with, looks like something that belongs at a African safari.

Bah, I prefer the good old fashioned method of stealing milk-crates or phone books and taping them all together.

Can't be that illegal. They're only phone books.

Apparently SP isn't hurting too much for money... or wasn't

$10K worth of furniture for a couch a couple chairs... dang, I'm going to start drilling holes in pipes, threading one end, and selling them.

WTF??? You guys are crapping on SP for one of the owners trying to sell some (ugly) furniture on Ebay? Not for nothin, as a guy who has spent the last 3 months hand making one single chair out of hardwood, 10 grand for that set up is about right, you'd have to hand me at least a grand for mine when it's finished, and that's probably at a loss for me considering the time and materials.

magman007
05-11-2005, 02:48 AM
dave you would have to give me atleast a grand to keep that in my house :)

i mean, i respect the worksmanship that went into the couch, but cmon, i had to throw in some of the sp marketing hype :)

I don't think anyone was serious... well aside from the 10K for a couch and some chairs bit... I understand there exceptional (while, if one listens to the ramblings of one of the Greiners (I assume)) but we are paintballers, many of us have old spools and milk crates for furniture to rest our $1200 paintball marker on.

Tell you the truth, I don't think I find that furniture nearly as ugly as everyone seems to think it is. I would gladly put it in my home and it's a VERY nice set. Problem is, I'm somewhat opposed to paying that much money for new furniture.

The funny part, I thought, was this auction:
Green .45 Grips (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=47239&item=7131432305)
Where everyone asked if the grips would fit their .45-framed markers. I'm sorry, but you're a little silly if you can't look and see that they're .45 panels. In any case, good luck clearing out your old furniture, Adam... go G-man!

(Incidentally, I certainly hope "g-man" isn't self-adopted. Not a particularly good nickname for one to want to choose for themselves.)

everyone in this thread should email him asking if they will fit their individual markers....that would be amusing.

edit: did you notice that 2 people asked if it would fit the Ion, and he posted both questions?

Q: will these fit on the new smart parts ion?
Mar-25-05
A: Yes, they will. Thanks ~ Adam

Q: Would this grip wourk on the ION?
Feb-20-05
A: Yes it will. Thanks ~ Adam

apparantly there is a difference between the new ion and the ION.

I'm doubly baffled that with literally hundereds of employees at SP, they can't find somebody else to deal with the goofiness of ebay sales for them other than Adam Gardner. The story is that SP pretty much furnished their new building with ebay purchases though.

I don't think the furniture is that ugly, but the cushion fabric is god-awful.

I hate to break it to you, but markup on pb guns is minimal. Like a company makes $50-$75 per gun last I knew. So, new Shocker= $800? So that means it took $750-$725 to build.

I beleive you are wrong on that. The retail markup is not great - but retail mark up (that is the mark up by the retailer) is not necessarily indicative of manufacturer mark up. I think you will find the mark up on markers by the retailers sucks (I know it does) but you are kidding yourself if you think SP has anywhere near $700 into building a shocker in recurring costs (not including overhead, marketting, and R&D costs).

I don't know, think of the expense of CAD milling, anno, etc etc. That stuffs pretty pricy. Maybe the actual piece of aluminum is cheap, but the rest isn't.

Not when done in bulk. Individual pieces, or small order runs are rather expensive, but the cost is in tooling... once you have the start-up costs out of the way recurrent costs are fairly minimal. If I had to guess a "new" Shocker likely has about $300 to $400 in recurrent costs in it. I'm told it may be less.

On that furniture, all the furniture manufactures better put patents on their furniture, because Smart Parts will be trying to sue them next.
