Anyone know what a 2003 3/4 chevy get for gas milage? I drove through the dealer lot today and the 2003-2005's didn't have a rating on their MPG for the 6.oL

I would guess mid teens depending on rear end ratio...

realistically your probably going to average about 11-12. buddy of mine had a 01
its good power but sucks with gas
I had a 2001 2500HD with the 8.1L. Now thats bad gas milage tons of power I could pass anything but a gas station.

depends on what tranny you get in there and what kind of gearing you got in the back. my 78 3/4 ton chevy with the 454, turbo 400 and 4.11's in the back gets about 5-6 on the highway. i dont drive it much :(

The DMax would get nice mileage and power.

diesel is out of my range, but I agree it's the best option. I gotta have a truck and I dunno if 1/2ton will cut the mustard.

I have a mustang with a 5l gas milage is around 18-20mpg with 1:2.73 gears
I'm going to pull stuff with it. I work a construction job over the summer. My uncle and two of his boys and I build a house each summer. With exception of pouring the foundation we do it all. Frame, roof, wire, plumb, drywal, trim, paint, landscape, driveway. The problem we run into each year is that my uncle who works for pella windows as well pulls his tool trailer to work and then to the build each day. He also owns a 3 ton dump trailer and a trailer for pulling a cat. So when we need something we have to figure out a way to get his tool trailer there AND whatever else we need. I'm getting a truck regulardless so I figured I might as well get something that can pull a decent load while I'm at it. But I don't intend to use it as a full time puller. The nice thing is that I rarly leave my area with exception for where ever we build so gas milage isn't a big deal, but I still want to know what My fuel budget is going to look like. I will pry end up at a dealership tomorow anyway... not that I would ever buy from one... but might as well tap into what they know about them until I make my choise. So thanks for trying to help out everyone

diesel is out of my range
what do you mean?
Get a 00'ish full size diesel ford. Cheaper, and it will still outlast a 2004 regular.
these ford diesels are the only decent cars ford has made in a looong time, actually worth looking into:). The dodges are ugly, and the chevys are expensive (my dad has like 2 of each lol).
Throw an exhaust some propane and a chip into that ford too and you can drag race it heh. the 00's have bigger engines than the new ones, so you can mess with them more but are louder and i believe get slightly less mpgg.
You need a dodge cummins, they get around 18-19 mpg around town, 22+ over 60 mph. I know my bud has one, We pulled a 7000lb GW covered trailer, with 4 300+lb atvs, a huge tool box, with tools, riding gear, air comprser, alot of other thing to. And we had about 1500 in the cab. It was not even working and still geting around 13 mpg

Check out thedieselplace.com
Some folks have pulled some pretty heavy loads.

I too gona have to recommend a diesel. Better fuel milage, better longevity, better towing capability , and ALOT more FUN.
I say this from experiance as my TOY is my 1994 F250 Diesel (http://www.hunt101.com/img/255863.jpg).
My truck averages 15mpg in the city but tops at 21mog being nice on the higway. It produces STOCK (ie not anymore bit higher now LOL) 200hp 400lbs.tq at only 1400RPM. The truck may sound like shes low on power but TRUST ME it will PULL ANYTHING you strap to it (includeing the odd school bus Ie. DONT ASK).
Even my truck be as old as it is works great for me. I used it as my daily driver for nearly a year befor getting my VW diesel. It was just as at home in that role as it is towing 13000lbs up a grade 6 hill.
A truck like mine can be had for $10k CDN (low milage GOOD condition) and is good for another 10years or more and more than double the milage.
BUT if your DEAD set on getting a Gasser save your self some hassel and look into an older cheby with the 350 as the 6.0 has had some engein troubles (piston slap). Or if ya dont mind looking at Ford the 5.4 is a great engein.

according to this (http://www.f150online.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8747) the ford 5.4l is a candidate for piston slap...as well as the chevy 5.7l (http://www.pistonslap.com/)
so really the only engines that aren't going to have PS are the ones NOT made in canada and the ford 351.....
I'm set on a "gasser" anyway. I Just can't justify the extra 10,000$ for the 3 mpg that I will save. I don't think I've ever put more then 30k miles on any vehicle I've ever owned.
