so back in january i had to decide what to make in jewlery class. i used drawings i made in class a year or two ago (and then scanned and touched up with photoshop) as the design. i had to figure out what to actually put the design on, and i figured... why not paintball gun grips? so after a LONG time sawing, filing, sanding, soldering, inlaying, and more sanding, and three weeks missed cause i had mono and then a week of mcas testing, the first grip is almost done. i just have to drill holes and maybe polish a bit more. the other grip still has to finish soldering, sanding, inlaying, sanding and polishing before its done. the reason its so far behind is because i wasnt paying attention to the flame and melted a thin part of metal  so i had to cut out that section, cut a new replacement piece, solder it in, and sand it down.

this was my first project in jewlery class, the year is almost over and most of the other people are almost done with their second projects and starting on their final. but it was worth it :D.

i ended up getting a vert frame for my mag though, and decided i needed a .45 frame marker for these grips. so i picked up a freestyle on ebay :D. once both grips are done ill have pics of the marker and grips up. look for it in GOTM!

Those are really cool looking, but won't they tarnish and get scratched?

tarnish? probably not, and i can just polish em again. and i can take out small scratches fairly easily. the only thing im really worried about is them taking a close hit, the inlay could come out. but hey, its the only thing i could really make that id use, and having it get scratched is better than having it in the closet. and anyway, its really the same as getting a nice ano, it looks good but you take the risk of having it get scraped up.

Cool. What did you inlay into them? It's black, so is it onyx? Or is it an enamel type of thing? I am a young beginner jeweler. You can see my work at www.taylormadejewelry.biz if you are interested.

THOSE ARE SO SWEET !!! And I mean that as in sweet tasty, not sweet effeminate. Looks like an ant in a way, very symeterical. Can I have some? LOL... j/k I applaud your artistic abilities!!! Nexus, I couldn't get to your site, but will try again later. I have been trying to get a little artsy too last month or so... Playing with some mold making and castin resin. Eventually, I would like to make some bodies for the ION. The one I really want to make is a dragION.

I was wondering if you might use a little clearcoat over your grips so that they don't scratch up as easy, but you are right. Better to have them on the gun and enjoy than to keep them pristine in the closet... Keep up the awesome work !!!

I can't seem to get to my site either . . . My host serivice has done this a couple times before. It just goes down for days for no particular reason. I should probably find a new one.
