View Full Version : Get rid of the penny?

What do you think?
I hate these things. So useless.

Serisouly though.
I would gladly accept a loss of 4 cents at any given purchase just not to deal with these things. Actually - I do. I say "Keep the pennies"

And I've also seen several places that just take a one cent loss and give someone a nickel instead of four pennys.

They are such a hassle. I hate them.

Who thinks the mint should do away with pennys?

Not I,
Once every couple of months I cash in my change jar for about $100 bucks.
Its like having a money tree :D

Meh, then we'd start using nickles more often and you'd hate them too.

According to my friend, Austrailia doesn't use anything but quarters(or the 25cent equivalent) they round up to the nearest .25cents. I could handle that... Unlike our brilliant Canadian Gov't officials, the added 2 coins to our damn pockets!

They will be... if you stop using the penny then the nickle will lose its value and become the pennies of the future :)

ditto.

If they're going to get rid of anything get rid of the nickle. It's the only denomination of money that actually costs more to make then it's worth. IE it costs 5.5 cents to make a nickle.

Uh...you sure about that? I can't possibly believe that with the minting system as it is, it costs that much to make a stamped piece of metal.

Besides, it doesn't matter how much it takes to make one. That doesn't determine its real value, anyway.

I hate pennies too. I only use silver change. Pennies are just askin to be taken out. They don't even look like the other coins. All my pennies I take to the coin Star and let them rip me off rather than try to wrap them or use them at stores.

actually, i kinda like pennys. after i save up enough of them, i go and buy candy and o-rings and stuff. most of the time i will get half way through counting the exact change, and they say "thats good enough" and so i get a discount sorta thing.

and you can throw them at nerds.

Or you can do what I did: save them, roll them, and buy a gun.

They don't bother me, cash is cash. Every day when I get home I throw all my change in a big jar and about twice a year I cash them all in. I bought a new Ruger hunting rifle with the extra change before.

Have you ever been pumping gas knowing you only have like $20 in your pocket? You're watching the price go up, tapping the handle up a bit higher the suddenly :cuss: $20.02. Then you feel really good 'cause you remember you threw two pennies in your ash tray. It's like a little morale boost. Like 'hey I got 2 cents more gas (a lot now right? ). Anyways that's always a good feeling to me. Maybe I'm just strange

What currency would we throw at others if we did away with pennies? Nickels? I rest my case.

The people who would suffer are those charities that have jars next to the cash registers. Like the ronald McDonald thing. I always drop all my pennies in there, but usually no silver.

Hey, at least we haven't gotten rid of the $1 bill. We could end up with something like the 1 pound or 1 euro coin. Of course the "gold" dollar (can't spell real name) coins are kind of fun but too big.

or is michigan the only state that has those.

Pennnies are kind of worthless. I just pay an extra dollar when there is cents in the total. I never actually buy anything with coins. I just save them and then cash it in for paper money.

I like pennies, I can't remember the last time I acctually spent one, but they look cool in a big jug just sitting there.

Nickels on the the other hand. I so frickin hate those things, I don't really know why but I think they are useless and thay irritate me to no end.

It varies depending on the price of metals. Sometimes one is, sometimes neither, sometimes both.

Answers to everything:
Paying for gas: speedpass!
Pumping gas in NJ: dont do it! I hate having slow stupid mexicans pump my gas because I have to wait fudging 20 minutes for them.
Saving change: I save it and every christmas break I cash out at the bank and invest. Last year I got pfizer (good choice). Now those damn coins became millions and millions invested in the stock market! (over-exaggeration)

You are all weird.

I LOVE IT!!!!

Penny's are only good to put in your mouth like candy...tastes yummy. Nickels are lame, they're so big but worth less than a dime. Why is that? We should all use furs for curency. Imagine going to buy a new BMW with 4 truckloads of fur. Or bringing a swatch of dog fur for paintballs every week. OKOK This thread now no longer makes any sense whatsoever.

Let's see how nonsensical we can get this thing........ :tard:
