I was just looking through my small collection of Airgun Designs products, and pop open the warp feed box, and my classic 68 box and find that there are a few warranty etc cards. Then I find "forum membership" cards...Ok, now I feel special, I officially belong to AO. What's this  I find that both membership cards have the SAME member I.D...As you can see in the pictures below, these are not the same cards my friends.

Now, I feel personally offended...

Funny, all the cards ever given out have the same member number on them. If I am not mistaken it was the actual number of members at the time the card was designed.

Yep, they all had the same number on them, I've got 6 or so myself floating around the house.

yup, and there's a guy with the user name user #10,631. I think that was the number on all of the cards.(I didn't bother looking at your pics.

How do you find someone's member number anyway?

in the URL, you just replace the user id with the one you want to find.

And before folks get all worked up over member numbers and who’s is lower than who’s….. there are at least a few (if not more) members who’s numbers are higher than they were when they actually first joined AO. There have been server crashes and lost data and accounts have had to be recreated. That caused the member number to reflect the point at which the account was reborn, not originally made.

Yeah, but that only effected newer users at that time. :) I'm #494 and always have been:)

That would be the Unix Epoch ... or the time at which time begins in Unix. All time on a unix machine is based on the number of seconds since 1/1/1970. Unfortunately this time is stored in a signed 32 bit integer which means the Y2K problem that was seen in Windows machines will eventually also happen to some Unix machines but not until 1/19/2038 0314 GMT. Some never systems use a 64 bit integer which pretty much eliminates the problem.
