ive never try this... but does paintballs go though traps? i mean like a random shot here and there?

basicly i want to use a clear tarp that is 13mm thick for my little safe area at a field we are thinking about playing at... and im not going to spend $400+ for 300feet of paintball netting... just for 20 feet at most...

A non weave tarp should be OK. But weaved tarps can get holes if you shoot from too close.

our safe area is going to be a good 30 yards away atleast from play area... i know we should be safe.. but better be safer then sorry right?

if the tarp is really 13 mm thick, then i think it should be plenty safe to shoot at. you could probably empty hoppers on it and it would be fine.

Umm,

13 mil is a little different than 13 mm. I would just plan on keeping my mask on until everybody's markers were corked and on the ground. :)

a paintball will go thru 13mill plastic at close range. ... why dont you just test it?

i kinda thought 13 mm was a little thick, how could that be considered a tarp? i just posted useing the 13 mm cuz maybe it might actually be that thick

well why dont you watch for yourself. http://newbreed.xe0.com/bunkers.html hear is a vid that my team made for the bunkers we made of tarp. (its at the top of the page just read, it says click hear to watch test)... you will be plenty safe, but dont just take my word , watch and see.....

I don't know if it was just me but the link for your embeded video didn't work.

However this one does http://newbreed.xe0.com/jake/movie/bunkertest.wmv

Again, it could just be me...

We have used walmart tarps before, but careful they seem to weaken very fast out in the elements.

Another idea I have found to work (because I have done it and thoroughly tested it) is using screen houses for safety/viewing areas for private fields.

I can not vouch for every screen house on the market, but as long as you don’t get too cheap, it should be okay. The one we used was mid-range in price and worked flawlessly. And we tested it WAY beyond any standard paintball use situations.

Plus it helps keep bugs off of you as well as provides shade.

leave slack in the tarp and you should be fine - if you stretch it tight the balls might make it through, a little bit of movement to help decrease the energy of the balls and you should be good

that is what i was thinking...

also for the bunker idea... good idea.. but im not going to use tarp for mine... canvas dropcloth, so i would never have to worry about replacing the tarps

Leave it out in the elements and you'll have to replace canvas as well....

well true... but where i can set up my field... they would never allow it to be setup all the time. i would have to take it down all the time. besides i dont know anyone that has the money to keep playing everyday :p
