How Much Air Does A Mag REALLY Need?

I've heard everything from 650-750psi to operate but I had a moment with my old mag that contradicted that. I ran it down to about 550.. +/- 10 PSI and it cycled for another 10-15 shots still. Just wondering how this happened. If anyone's curious I was using a Dye Throttle 70/4500 tank.. the gauge worked fine and I was in room temperature.

From what ive noticed, people usually just run an 850 preset tank. Or with RT, Emag, and X valves, they up the pressure to around 1200 i think.

The internal regulator regulates to ?400?

with my emag and my rt i use a crossfire 68/45 with a preset output of 850.

what I'm asking is what does the mag need to keep firing? mine crapped out at 500psi... but so many people say it NEEDS 700ish to even work.

You do realize "properly working" for a non-liquid filled micro guage is about +/_ 10% or so, it would not surprise me to see a micro gauge reading 550 actually having 600+ in it.

If its even that accurate - I do not know if thats 10% of actual reading or 10% of total possible. To me on a scale of 100 a 10% variance represents 10 - I'm thinking, most gauges go to 5K that a 10% variance represents 500. Though the actual variance doesn't really matter, it is the idea that I'm trying to get across - minigauges are notably inaccurate and should not be depending on for anything but an estimate.

And Manike showed once that 600PSI was plenty to operate a mag on if I recall.

I dont know about those throttle guages, my friend's throttle would hit 0 and his matrix would go another 100 or so shots. Doesnt seem to accurate to me

A Mag regulates down to about 400psi. The rule of thumb for regulators is to have atleast 200 PSI between regs. This means that you should have atleast 600 psi going into the gun. Will it work on less, sure, is it going to run at it's optimum, nope.

my sfl would shoot to 400 psi reliably, but then again, i had black vcg work his magic on the gun and the level 10.

No, and as far as I know he can not do it to the new Level 10 either. The tube does not come out.

Most mags will operate quite nicely with and input down to a pressure just above the chamber pressure. The problem people have is with the rate of recharge. With only minimal pressure differential, there is no high flow rate. So, you have to wait between shots for the chamber to fully recharge. ie. 2bps instead of 18bps when the bottle gets near the cutoff point.
