firefox worked fine for me for a long while, and always works on any other computer but recently its been acting up. it will crash sometimes, and when i checked it is using an insane ammount of the CPU. when i start firefox its averaging probably 3-10%, but when i do something, like even just go to gmail the CPU usage jumps to maybe 30 or so. sometimes higher for moments, like it will go up into the 90s. right now its averaging 35%. i have 4 windows open. just a second ago i did a simple google search and clicked on a result, and the page wouldnt load. i looked at the CPU usage and it was in the high 90%, and staying there. thats when i took the screenshot. shortly thereafter firefox crashed. i have installed extentions but none for a while, and its only been doing this recently. maybe updates for the extentions were installed though, im not sure. oh, and the popup blocker aparently doesnt work either, some popups appear... im not sure if that is just a result of the programming though, and sites finding ways around it, because i havent changed any settings. ive also had a few problems with napster and trillian, but i doubt theyre related. i first noticed this when any music im playing would skip.

so i have a few questions. one, does anyone know what could be causing this? does anyone know how to solve this? would reinstalling it help? also would reinstalling it erase my bookmarks and extentions? is there any way to save my bookmarks, if it would?

maybe i should have mentioned that one of the extentions i downloaded for it was adblock... :p

although i sorta doubt those ads would actually help.

oh, and i noticed that the same thing is happening with IE, where its draining the processor, but it doesnt crash like firefox has.

I've had a similar problem off and on lately as well. I believe my problem stemms from the fact that I rarely actually shut down my laptop. I just generally hibernate it. WHen I'm having those problems I just shutdown and reeboot and I'm ok.

I also had this problem. When I defragged my harddrive, the problem never came back. Dunno if its related, but there you go.
