Hmmm... I think I love the aluminum panels too much to change...

But if you had color options (blue) and the price was lower than the aluminum panels, I think I might be forced to pick up a pair. :hail:

Since you are doing plastic, it would be easier to put designs and such into the grip wouldn't it?

Well not really, all I did was make a mold out of a pair of grips I already machined.

So how about some pics of those colors in plastic? And could you do a two color mix (swirl-or something)?

So how about some pics of those colors in plastic? And could you do a two color mix (swirl-or something)?

Sorry about the picts. I've been a little busy. :)

:) :) :)
I'm not sure about doing 2-3 part mixtures. My mold is completely inclosed in order to mold the front and back if the panel, so I'm not sure how the material I use will react if I do 2-3 separate pours (which will be necessary). I think the panels you see out there that have the swirls and such are an "open" mold meaning there is not a back on the mold which enables you to do these patterns. The HF panels must be molded in the back which makes this more difficult (if not impossible) to do.

The pot life for the material I use is only 3 minutes, so I don't now if the plastic will bond if I do it in more that one pour. It might, but I'm not sure. I'm not saying it is impossible, I just don't know if the material I have will work. I need make my investment money back (not to mention my time) from these before I start exterminating with stuff that may or may not sell.

Right now I have 8 colors available and my guess is I won't sell ½ of the ones I've already made. So far people are buying the black ones, sight unseen. ;)

When I first came out with the Emag Panels I had Black-Green-Red-and Blue. I think I sold 1 red and 1 blue set. I ended up having to strip the anno and powder coat them black just to sell them. That was $450 down the drain, and the extra money and time to refinish them. That is why I only offer my stuff in black now. After loosing that money it makes it difficult to gamble on what you think people will buy.

If I had 101 choices someone would want something different.

I'm not griping, I'm just stating how hard it is second guess the market, losses come directly out of my pocket. ;)

:) :) :)

I got a few pictures today but I don't like them, the colors didn't even come out close to what they actually look like. :(

they would fit Logic cert frames and Angel vert frames

I guess I "kind of" knew that. I figured the screw holes would be the same, I was more concerned about covering all the holes in the frame. ;)

I suppose the best way to design a set would to have both frames for design.

Not yet, sorry.

If the molds for my new Y-grip and the Emag panels work out I'll probably do one for the Chimera frame.

The Y-grip mold is done, but I haven't had a chance to try it yet. I've been working on the new blade triggers for the Hyper frame. Just finished them up today. :)

Awe man it wasn't a conspiracy or anything. :p I didn't really know I was going to do another run until the first batch sold out and I sold a bunch of them week before last. Your sale help facilitate my interest in doing another batch. :) As far as the new design goes, that was a last minute change. That's one of the advantages of not running CNC, I don't have to spend any time at the design board, I make the changes on the fly.

Man it's been a week, you haven't forgotten about that yet! :)

I need to test my Ygrip mold before I do the Emag one. I ran into several problems with the Y grip mold last week. I'm using a different material so it didn't work as expected. I ended up trashing 2 complete molds, 4 days worth of work, (curing time anyway) the 3rd (48 hours worth) is done and it looks promising, I just haven't tested it yet. Perhaps tomorrow I'll test it, no promises right now because I have custom work coming in and it's always priority. ;)

Well I only have these colors, red, blue, green, yellow, black, purple, orange.

What "basic" colors would I mix to make olive?

That's a better question. Based upon the fact that your green seems to have a slight bluish tint and a little guesswork I would think a a 2:1 ratio of your green to yellow may produce an olive affect. Olive is really considered a dark yellow, so perhaps even a yellow and black mix. I guess it really depends on how those plastics mix. Judging by this color wheel I think pushing your green a little closer to yellow would do it.

http://www.sugarcraft.com/catalog/coloring/colorwheel.jpeg

But then I found this on color theory:

Adding black to a color certainly makes it darker, but it also causes the color to lose its value (like blue's sense of blueness) and starts becoming muddy and murky -- some times it turns into another color altogether (adding black to yellow doesn't give you dark yellow; it gives you an olive green color)The secret in darkening colors without changing their value lies in the proper use of a color wheel.
You darken a color by mixing it with its complement. For example, yellow can be made darker by adding a little purple to it. To make it a little bit dark, add a little bit of purpled; to make it a lot darker, add a lot more purple. This works both ways: to darken purple, add yellow. And so on with the other colors.

Which supports my latter theory of just adding black to yellow. I guess it really comes down to how well those plastics mix, if it all.

luke
08-28-2006, 08:27 AM
The base material is white when it cures, I add the dies to that. The real problem is that you don't really know what color it will be until it cures. And besides that you only have 30 seconds to mix the 2 parts (and die) and 60 seconds to pour the mold. (No real time play with the dies)

I might be able to pull it off, I'm just not sure how many attempts it will take....
