View Full Version : Can I use one of those 5000psi Scion tanks on a mag?

So I'm thinking of picking up a new Emag or Xmag. And that would require I bigger tank (I currently have a 48/3000 PMI)

So I looked these up on PMI's website and they say they operate at 100- 550 psi. Doesn't a mag need like 900??

Technically a mag needs a minimum of 650psi. However, in order to perform well (good consistancy) you want around 800+psi. I would never run a mag under 800psi.

I have two and they work great

A mag will not work on a low pressure tank. The 500PSI is just the pressure of air that's stored in the tank. The tip of the tank (the threads, the gauge, and the two burst discs) is a part of the regulator.

The regulator on adjustable output tanks have hex holes in them where you can screw in a set screw. This set screw puts pressure on a small piston that opens or closes a small chamber inside there, thus lowering or raising the pressure.

There are two types of preset tanks, low and high pressure. Low pressure typically operate anywhere under 400PSI, and high pressure are usually above 800PSI.

Theres another type of hybrid tank I dont think has been released yet (air America, I believe). It comes with a sprink kit that puts pressure on the piston. You can actually strip the tank head, and swap out the springs for different output pressures.

The mag valve requires something like 700PSI, but the more the better (anywhere under 1000 will be good. RT's will give you lots of bounce). Basicly, the more pressure, the faster the refresh rate.

Mags have a built in regulator in the rear, and take the pressure down below 500PSI. That's why you dont see regs on mags much.

On Mags? What are they outputting? If it's a max of 550 and you're getting no shootdown then you must have a magical Mag.

Did you mean 5000?

or, if you have a properly tuned lvl 10. I ran my sfl at 600. thus making black vcg a god.

So the 550psi output tank wouldn't have worked then? ;)

I dont know about you, but theres not many places around me that fill to 5k anyway

Do you use them with mags?

I don't know guys. Not that I need it, but right now I can get them used for about the same price as any other adjustable tank. And if I get an emag, it wouldn't hurt. Some people are saying that they can crank them up to 1000psi. I've seen some with guages that go that high (actually up to 1200).

I'm thinking of buying, cranking it up, and if I don't like it, I'll trade it for a Crossfire Stubby

If it can got up to 1000psi then go for it. Even 900 would be good. I don't like to run Mags under 800psi personaly.

I got an email back from Evil

Steven,
You will notice that the newer Scion tanks come with a 1200psi
Evil
Gauge on them. All Scion tanks will adjust to 800-900psi if you happen
to get one with a 500psi gauge let me know and I can hook you up with a
proper gauge.

This sounds excellent. I've heard great things bout the scion's recharge rate. Now if only OmniM would sell me his Xmag . . . .*runs to email box again*
