Does anyone know how to rip files off of a website? say... certain sound files of certain songs that are otherwise unavailable? exclusively for research, of course. is there any software that does this?

Despite your intended purposes, which I'm sure are lily-white, due to some unfortunate people who are a little bit more indiscriminant and uncouth in how they use these 'ripped files, that's called 'piracy' and is copyright violation, and is prosecutable

Doing it is illegal, and asking about it on AO is frowned upon, and advertising these intentions (despite their purity!) on a public forum is a bad idea anyway.
