View Full Version : Most outrageous price for an air fill?

Recently one of my local stores charged me 13$ to fill my 68/45 and, if I remember correctly they only filled it to around 3500-4000psi. The same tank that had been purchased at full retail price from the aformentioned store. Needless to say I never dealt with them again.

Just curious to see how bad I got ripped off.... :p

nevermind that these stores have to make enough money cover overhead, and if they're luck some profit

The "13$ store" just happend to be on my way that day and I didn't bother to ask the price of filling the tank.

I have always defended the need for profit, but $13 for an air fill is getting to the point of ridiculous.

The only way I could see a price like that is if it was an "all event" fill for something that lasted a few days

yeah thats a bit rediculous, the place I usually go to charges 3 for a fill regaurdless of size and 5 for all day air. I have never heard of more then like 6 for a fill though, thats pretty bad.

When I play paintball at my local field, I pay $10 for an entry fee and all day air. When I am not playing, but just get a tank filled, I pay $3, $13 is way to expensive for 1 fill. I understand proshops need to make money, but there is a line between making money and ripping people off.

I've been a few places that charget $1 per 1000 PSI. Not good when you use a 45ci tank and a gun that is a bit of an air hog.

Same w/ me. Maybe this guy's costs for renting out the building are astronomical. I went to a place that sold crappy zap econo paint for $100 a case and that was his excuse.

The worst I have had to pay was $2 per 1000 psi.

During winter when i don't play very much and just shoot some air every now and then. The shop by me costs 10 to fill a 68/45

I live on a remote island and the only shop fillled my 92/45 to 4000 psi and charged me $15. They charged my friend $13 for a 72/3k fill. Now I bought fill station and each fill costs less and less. I am now down to 13$ per fill. It will keep getting lower and lower the more I fill ;)

Yes but suburbia just outside of Detroit is not the middle of nowhere. At least being on an island makes it semiunderstandable (Is that a word?), you seriously pay that much?!? I hope you don't shoot a mag. :D

I pay $1.50 per 1000psi at Boston Paintball. They never fill it to 4500 either. If your gonna complain about air prices, just go get a scuba tank. I know I am.

Anything over $1.00 per 1000 psi is a rip IMO.

how much does a scuba tank cost?
idk how many stores ever fill tanks ALL the way to the top..... only one guy (the guy who charges me $1) ever fills it fully

I'd say go to a dive shop...you can A) get some cheap scuba's there, they won't be much to look at but I trust a dive shop to judge a tank WAAAAY better then a PB store. B) fills are usually diirt cheap there, the scuba place where I use to go to would charge 2 bucks for a pb tank fill of course they may hassel you for not being dive certified or over charge cause your some punk kid

Well, it may be your opinion, and you're certainly entitled to it. But how logical is it to expect a store to run a profit at even 1$ per 1000?

If you pay 4.50 per fill on a 4500psi tank, with compressors and equipment costing anywhere from 5000 to 15000, it'll be 1000 to 3500 fills before the compressor and equipment is paid off.

That's before you pay for employees and the electricity and maintenance for the compressor.

If I had the money, I'd invest it elsewhere....

get a scuba tank..i get mine refilled for 6$..may cost a little in the beginning, but it's more than paid for itself, plus i can work on my gun without having to worry about refilling.

It's $6.50 at a couple places around here for a 4500 PSI fill. Thankfully, there's a scuba shop that's also closer to me that charges $3 for any fill, whether it's 3000 or 4500 because they know you're not going to get all 4500 you pay for unless you leave the tank with them overnight so they can fill it properly.

$13?!?!?!? Jeez . . . . 7 dollars more will get you all day air at my field. One fill, for 4500psi, is 5 bucks

It pisses me off everytime I pay $5 for a 4500psi fill and I get a hot fill that is really only 2800-3000psi anyway. That is why I bought 80cf scuba and get it filled for $5.

Yup, I certainly am. ;) I guess I really cant answer that because most of the fields around here make to much off paint, rather than air fills, to begin with to compensate for operational costs. Nothing like going some where, blowing $20 to get in the door and then have to pay $85 a case for the only paint the field carries.

Just solely based on my own personal experiences.

What I never understood is the use of pressure as a means to charge for tank fills.

A 45ci filled to 4500psi is not the same as a 68ci filled to 4500psi. The 68ci tank is eating up more of your cascade fills, even boosters won't be the same.

Charge per mole? :D

$15 field fee gets allday air at my field plus admission.

Sometimes i go in there and need a fill just to tinker with my gun, they dont even charge me.

i've paied from $0-4 to fill a 68/3k flatline

I don't think I paid for air anywhere last year....

Hahahaha, now field owners will have to learn how to do stoichiometry to know how much to charge.

I certainly can't complain though. Like Skife said, my field gives free all day air with admission. Even better, my admission is only $10 woot. It doesn't hurt that they're the only speedball field in the area...

There's a crappy store near me that can't fill more than 3000psi. And they charge $10 for it. And I hear they don't filter. If you're in Massachusetts, don't bother with the Drop Zone in Hadley... $95 per case of paint, too. $15 Kingman pod harnesses for $60, and $5 squeegees that won't fit in the largest bore of your friend's pipe kit, no matter how much the chick behind the counter insists that it will work, despite her lack of any knowledge about paintball... **** 'em.

I have never seen it for than $2 per 1000. I have never paid for air either, playing for the team has perks I guess. The money is recouped quickly for new compressors, 1000-2000 fills is alot but you would be suprised as to how many tanks are filled thorughout the day.

 DONT suggest that, then they would have to hire an engineer to figure it out and make us pay for even more overhead... :spit_take
