I usually start with the polishing wheel for my dremel than finish off with a good hand polishing using a polishing rag.

If you are looking for cheap, efficiant, and easy, go to Wal-Mart and in the automotive section, get a can of this stuff called NevrDull (http://www.nevrdull.com/). It is not in a metal container, so dont look for the red and blue, look for metalic, black, and white. Its can of cotton like wad that you rub on the metal, and then wipe the metal off with a soft cloth. It brings instant shine. After one application, any metal that you used it on (atleast for me) seems to get less shiny after a while, but rubbing it again with a soft cloth makes it as good as before. It very rarely needs to be applied again.

well what i meant was to furthermore smooth it out like more than i can do with steel wool.
i can get the little lines to go down small enough to really shine.

There are dremel pieces/tips that are made for buffing. Thats what i would use, but a nice finish to go over the metal would be much better.

800 grit to 2000(or higher) grit wet sand followed by rubbing compound?

If there are heavy scratches or anno that needs removed I start with 220 grit sand paper, then 400-600-800 grit, then the buffing wheel.

A Dremel will take days...
