Or better yet, work on the jobs he has had stacked up for years. It's almost an insult that he finds time to put the whiteboard out yet can sit on a marker for 5 years.

QFT. He's had a barrel of mine for a year. I love the man to death, and I love his work. Like I said, its an inspiration, but I feel the same way. I just didnt want to say it. :spit_take However, you cannot blame the man for making a living. I knew I would be waiting. so I guess I have no right to complain.

People have to do a few different things or they get burned out. Most of you work 40 or so hours a week and get to do what ever you find to be fun on the weekend. People like Doc work that amount plus and normally never find time for other things. I think the Whiteboard is just a way to take a break from the shop work. I also doubt it takes all that long to draw one of the comics and I am sure the story line come while in the shop (or on the toilet). So for people to say, hey, he shouldn't be making the whiteboard, he should never leave the shop isn't really fair.

I totally agree with you on the burn out thing Muz, and like I said, you cant fault anyone for trying to make an honest buck.....
....but when you have someones gun for 5 years then that is just wrong, especially if you wont even answer inquiries about it. Cant blame anyone for getting pissed about that situation.

The Whiteboard is a work of genius... It's one of the first things I view when I hit the web..

Doc is one of the most innovative airsmiths I've seen since I started playing in 1999.

To have the knowledge and creativity necessary to put out the paintball work he does is one thing, but add in the ability to draw and write story lines of the quality of The Whiteboard and compose picture settings, (all of this while under the gun to complete customer work) and you get a truly remarkable person......

I wish I had a 10th of his ability......

You rule Doc.......

-I can understand how that might be confusing, allow me to clarify; The package in which you sent the barrel was postmarked May 27th, 2005. About seven months and one week ago, give or take. Somewhat less than a year, in other words.

And prior to the three E-mails you sent in this past week, the most recent message from you was dated April 21st 2005, in which you requested my mailing address.

I fully admit I'm not the fastest, and yes, I have had certain projects for much, much too long, but you'll excuse me when I get a little annoyed when a customer who waited over seven months to even ask about their project, complains about the delay in public.

I completed it- it's an easy mod, probably took me about an hour- sent the PayPal request, and then set it aside and went on to the next project. There's always a next project. I suppose I should have chased it down a little more aggressivley, but I had over five hundred seperate customers in 2005. Sometimes I lose track and need a reminder.

Hey Doc, I am sorry about the misunderstanding. I had not meant it as a 'complaint', but it guess it got a little out of hand.

Just to let you know, I did email you about the dynabolt mod and some other work to one of my angels between then and now. In those emails I had inquired about the barrel at least once. I dont have those emails anymore, so im just going off of memory. I did not get a response to those inquires, so I figured the barrel wasnt ready, and you did not want to take the additional work. I have done business with you before, and I know your policy in regards to the "IS IT DONE YET" emails, and I also know that the other 3 barrels you cut for me took about 6 months. I did not ever recieve an notice about payment, either from you, or via a paypal request. So please cut me some slack on that one. Not only did I know know it was ready, I did not even EXPECT it to be ready, and figured it was time to inquire.

Look, I have nothing but respect for you and your work. I proudly show off every thing you have done for me every chance I get. I did not mean to be Doc Nickels "Prick of the week". I also did not intend to get into a public pissing contest about it either, so for that I apologize and if I ever get the chance to make it up to you I will.

I sent the payment you stated above via paypal yesterday. If there are any problems lmk.

-Ah, HA! It's about time...!

Yes, I still have the Bushy body and barrel (the barrel needed slight trimming to fit the breech, as I recall) and the Vector. I probably haven't even looked in the box in four years, and it might take me a moment to find it, but I know it's still here.

As I recall, that arrived around mid '99 or so- I'll have to find it and check the postmark. I also seem to recall not being able to get ahold of you after some period of time, and then eventually sending a certified letter, I'll guess sometime in '01 (though I may be off by a year or more.)

After no longer being able to contact the owner and getting no response from the certified letter, I wasn't about to just ship the thing off to the last known address.

Just out of curiosity, what took so long to ask about it? I mean, it's not like I didn't have three fairly high-traffic public websites, about half a dozen public E-mail addresses, a published mailing address, two or three magazine articles about me and a couple of dozen bulletin boards I'm a member of. In other words, it's not like I was trying to hide from you or anything. Was it just not that important a project, or something?

In any case, please send me an E-mail to "doc" at "docsmachine.com" with your name, a current and valid mailing address, and the project details (that you can recall anyway.) I'd love to get this straightened out and free up the bench space.

Well there appears to be a good deal of misunderstanding, then, so first of all, I retract my earlier comment in good faith. There are various reasons why there has been no followup on this job. I think the assumption was that the job was still somewhere in queue or otherwise still "in progress," as that was the status as of last contact (actually I believe you said you'd "get to it").

The last communication via email was successful (you responded) and the other contact info has not changed, so there was also an assumption that contact could and would be made upon completion. I had emailed you casually with another inquiry in the intervening time and received no response, so I didn't think followups on this job would be fruitful in any case.

The project (obviously) was a back-burner one, and was actually all but written off at this point.

I'll get in touch with you and hopefully clear this up. Is the work done?

This is for Doc. I get the impression that all the main characters(Roger, Bandit, Swampy, and Sandy) are actual members of your "staff" at your shop. Or at least homages to actual people. Is this so, and do any of them post anywhere? Swampy seems like an AO guy since he thinks a mag is hi tech enough for him! :)

Q: So who are they? Anybody we know? Doc is obviously, well, Doc, but who are the rest?

A: The Bear is more accurately an avatar of Doc, a simulacrum. Close, but not quite. The rest are gestalts, composite characters built using facets of many people, culled from books, magazines, real life and online. No one character translates directly to any realworld individual. The "neckless nobodies", as Tyger calls them, are Everyman. They can be anyone and they are no.
