Last week, I got the wife to agree to a large purchase.

I got a Canon 5D (http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=139&modelid=11933) Digital SLR.

dpreview.com review (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos5d/)

I'm having a great time around the city (Minneapolis):

That's scaled to 20% of the original size.

I have a small personal lens collection:
EF 50mm f1.4
EF 16-35mm f2.8L
EF 75-300mm f4-5.6

The above image was taken with the 50.

From the review, it looks like over $3000. Can't tell if its a current or review time price at retailers.

Nice, the 5d is a beauty. As is the 50mm 1.4.

I have a 350d myself.

i own a d70 currently and im saving for a d2x (12.4mp 8fps)

reason I went with nikon:
i can throw this camera off of a cliff into the sea and then jump off after it then land on it then go take pictures of paintball and have it get shot and it will still work

I'd love a 5D. I have a 20D, 10D and A2 film camera as backup backup.
The 50mm 1.4 is nice. I just got a 85mm 1.8 and I think I'll really like it.

Wow, and I used to be proud of my 20D

So far I only have 3 lenses.

50 f 1.4
28-135 f3.5-5.6 IS
17-40 f4.0L

I am in desperate need of a telephoto zoom, but I can't decide between the 70-200 f2.8L IS and the 100-400 f4.5-5.6L.

I have rented the 70-200 f2.8L IS for a friends wedding, used both the 20D and the 1Dsmk2 on it. Wowzers is that a nice lens. $2000, but worth it if you need the highest quality glass. I would easily give up the extra range for the fast glass. You can always add a 2x teleconverter.

I used to be a Nikon shooter in my film days. I made the switch to Canon because they have full frame sensor cameras, and I love to shoot wide. That and the CMOS sensors are very nice. I still have a lot of respect for Nikon, but for me it's Canon now. There are other reasons as well.

I paid $3100, I found it for $3000 online, but I like to buy locally if I can get them to come near the online price. Got the BG-E4 (grip) for it as well. All that and the boss (wife) also let me get a 4g Extreme 3 CF card. Ordered that online since it was 2/3rds the price.

The only real issue I have with the 5D is that like any full frame sensor (I have used a 1Dsmk2 a lot too) it's really hard on lenses. Only the best look even ok on these cameras.

Here is a pic I took with the 20d in Monterey, CA. I know there aren't a lot of colors, but I really enjoy the variations of gray, as well as the lighting.

WOW... you could take a pic of damn near anything with that camera and it'd end up being beautiful! LOL

The 5D is on my list of things to buy. I got to play with one a few weeks ago when a lady at work bought it...I fell in love with it right away.
