Mods, help me out on this. I dont think we will get them back, but pros? cons? why? why not? And biggest downfall of them when we had them?

This place just isnt the same since the cost-cutting steps of removing old pics.

then donate some of the effing loot you make toward bandwidth costs.

Do we want 'em back? Who cares? They were removed because of the collective immaturity of members, as well as apparently to save a bit on bandwidth costs. It's not even up to the mods whether we've got sigs or not. It was Tom's decision. Guess who pays for the boards? Tom. This is a futile argument.

if we donate maybe we will score some bandwidth...

The old attached images are gone, guys. Deleted, removed from the servers. Throwing money at the issue won't solve that problem.

This would work for me, but it is a pain to use all the time.

It was my understanding that the pics are hosted on a separate server. Once they become so old, a script doesnt allow them to be viewable--but they havent been deleted.

Webby?
I want to say there was an actual deletion of all attached files.

Going here seems to confirm:

Now, I may have manually deleted any images I previously had uploaded, but I seem to remember announcements that the images were simply going to be removed and that people should back up anything they needed.

In any case, Tom's said before he doesn't want to solicit donations or require costs for privelages (like you pointed out) in order to prevent any artificial sense of elitism among members, so I don't believe there's a realistic possibility of sigs or images coming back any time soon. At least not while Tom's still footing the bill for the forums.

Sigs just require more bandwidth correct? If my assumption is true then I don't feel the extra cost to operate the site is justified.

But if its for other reasons I'd sort of like mine back, at least an AO-SoCal image would be nice!

I'm not a fan of signatures, however I do miss the old attached photos like Rouge said. :(

AO just stopped the support. You can have a sig if you want. In fact show support, sport your logo. I use mine one per page all the time.http://home.comcast.net/~beemerone/AoIL.gif

They were removed because of the collective immaturity of members

Ouch, Im a member. But I am sure that is one of the reasons they quit the support. But then mine was one that was never removed. I use it when ever I want and by the rules and guide lines in the sig rules. :ninja:

Ya Im sure being USMC was a pain. :hail:  and Thank you

 like this http://home.comcast.net/~allfor114all/AoCa.gif

Dont have an So one because it aint on the state list but if you can make one I can post it for you.

In fact who is good with the photoshop and can make the rest of the states that are missing.
or others like SoCa? There is a guy posting from Africa around here. :ninja: AO world wide watch out.

All the ones I have are here post eight. The URL is good so link your logo if you want.

'Jam' is the member who created the logos. Anyone remember him?

Anybody remember who did this one and why?http://home.comcast.net/~beemer2/respect.gif

I could care less about sigs being back or not.

As for image hosting… come on folks, there are TONS of free image hosting sites out there. So any excuse to not post an image because AO does not host it is silly IMHO…. No, let me rephrase that… is lazy.

Yes, I do. Anyone else?

I voted yes to bringing back the sig's, 'cause that was the original question. Why? I'm lazy and don't want to have to go find my feedback forum thread, and send the URL to someone I've done business with just so I can get some feedback. That's just me, though.

As for image hosting, I do need to get off my buttocks and find a decent site to post all my collected images to so I can share 'em with the world. *sigh* More googlin' ahead.

With the way the servers have been loading in the past 6 months, I say no.

I'd love a sig, but I dont think its technologically posible on this server

Agree. I'd like sigs so I can find my feedback thread and maybe put a link to my homepage. But I actually voted No because in many ways sigs are just another way to allow immature idiots a store window to display exacty how idiotic they are. Seeing sigs like, "My sig is better than Bob's" and then Bob's sig "No it's not"...might be slightly funny for a second or two...but from there it just gets annoying.

1) If FINDING your feedback link is difficult, you can still put it in your signature, which is viewable when you click any member's user profile.

2) Good free image hosting: http://www.imageshack.us
You can set up accounts so you can keep all your images together, it's free, it's fast, it provides thumbnails... just use it and stop whining about AO not providing even more free services that strain the already stressed servers.

Mobster Simply asked what our opinions were, is it okay to have ours, or if we dissagree we're just whining?

I think what most people are saying is that they would like to be able to go back and look at the old pictures more so then to use the attach image option.

Honestly, Id love to go back and browse the old pics again, and I have to admit it was easier to just attach images then continually make my hosted links. Not that i have a problem with it, its just one more easy step for me.

I'd rather the system include my sig, and do it only once per page. Requiring the hosting of images to be one "your own" server would be fine. But, as Beemer said, they aren't really gone...

For a while while sigs were enabled, webby implemented a script limiting sigs to being displayed only once per user per page. Also, images were eventually required to be hosted on non-AO servers. STILL the system was abused by enough people that Tom decided they just weren't worth the trouble. (Abused as in sigs that were too large, or inappropriate in any number of ways)

I also think the problem was more than just images in the signatures, but the signatures themselves.

I've said it twice already - It was TOM's decision to disable signatures!!!!! It was a combination of saving bandwidth, and him being fed up with issues relating to signatures that members were creating. Rules and such that were hard to decide on and enforce. He decided enough was enough and that it would just be easier to disable them altogether.

It's kind of stupid to get all wound up about sigs. Unless you have a business you are trying to get hits for. But if you do that, contribute to the site.

Signatures can be limited, plus there is other ways to save bandwidth with vBulletin \, this one is kinda out of date I forget what the latest version is, but I can donate my spare license.
