Sweet, with the paint being $10 cheaper, I can pay back Hexis for air from last time.

Hmm, might not have to shoot the Merlin all weekend. Though Hex shot just as much with the cocker as he would with the emag...

I like to use the bottled beer analogy whenever somebody says this. How much is a bottle when you go to a bar to hang out with friends? It's the same beer as if you went to the store. But it's not about the beer. It's about the surroundings, the event, the company you keep.

How much is a beer and hot dog at a ball game?

And maybe I've been playing too long but I remember when it was $60 for 1/2 case. Does anyone know how many rounds were in a case back then?

I remember those day's at Paintball dave's friday night fights $80 - for a case of 2000. $20 - admission and about $1 - per 1000 psi.

Another question is there a list of SE WI paintball shops?

As I stated in the other thread about Sam's.

You gonna start the Spring Game thread soon Geoff?

/yes everyone, Sam's paint is priced high, but thats all you pay. They also have the best field staff of anywhere I've ever played at. I'll pay a little extra anytime I know I'll have a great experience and fun all weekend. Theft incidents and injury to players (not counting us older guys rolling ankles) is always almost nonexistant.

//you are *NOT* ninjas
///Don't shoot the animals

:headbang:

You are paying for a well experienced field staff. Many many adults (and a senior citizen or two :argh: ) are on staff and will kick out any troublemakers and generally yell at any morans to get in line. It says something when people drive in from many states away to play for the weekend year after year. Its not as big as other huge draw events but its very friendly and easy to have fun.

If all you pay is for paint, then I stand corrected. If there are no other fees, admission...air...etc...then perhaps it would be worth trying, especially if the staff is as good as you point out. I totally agree that fields that excell are fields that are well run. If games are fair and fun...people will pay a little more to play. :shooting: :bounce:

There are no admission or parking fees. I believe all day air (4500psi) is $10 or $1 per 1K psi.

CO2 is also available.

And there isn't a rule that you NEED to shoot a case. You can buy 1/4 or 1/2 cases. Your best savings is to split a case.

There are usually 4-5 Big Games per day and then there is Nic. (aka HoseFest). In there you could go woodsball or speedball among the buildings.

Iron core - We usually start at the white fort and hit the barrel fields from the North.

Nothing like the sound of about 200 players meeting 200 players at the barrel field and pushing on, or falling back, to the hyperball field.

But yeah Aslan, its the full experience that bring many in to play. The field is nice enough, with heavy woods and partial swamp, as well as barrel fields and fully cleared hyperball areas. The refs are all well seasoned, there are multiple photographers and the company is always great.
Escorting Tyger carrying the flag one game, to see our own team friendly fire him at our own base was priceless. Watching Jayloo film and yell at Suicidal Snyper to take a fort is always fun. Most of the guys who used to be sponsored by AGD (AGD Pride/ Butterscotch Yo), work as refs/techs there. Tom Kaye routinely makes an appearance, and tons of other AOers.

There is a group of about 20 regulars from Minnesota that helped get me started in this sport, some of them have been going 2X a year for over 10 years now to Sam's.

I'm one of those MN players that's been going 2 times a year for over a decade. I have missed a couple over the years, but I have been to at least 20 Big Games at Sam's over the last 13 years.

In that case, someone local needs to have a girlfriend/wife so they can be called on a cell when the playing is over and drive to OG and make the reservations for us. Then 75 minutes later everyone is cleaned up as much as they can be and be ready to walk right in to start ordering.

Screw casanova's. Bad business practices they have. I bought a broken gun from them (didnt know it at the time) and they refused to take it back. Long story short, my Dad managed to somehow get them to take it back and they gave me a case of All Star Marballizer for my troubles.

But that was 5 years ago now. I'll never go there again period.

they sevrely crushed the powerfeed on my first marker that I ever owned :( goodbye Spyder SE   But I'm still pissed as :cuss: at them and never returned there.

Story goes is that the SE was my back up and was leaking somewhere in the little valve thing and when I seen what happen to it I was fearous and demand that they pay to get it fixed or give me the cost of a new spyder. The owner lied right to my face and told me it came in like that which was a bunch of bull cause later I showed him pictures of it and he threw me out. Called the BBB and they handled it and (when) told all everyone in my high school that played to avoid them like the plague. Let me remind you that this was about 2 years before pretty much everything turned electro. and wasnt that bad of a marker, and never really had a issue with it.

I still have that SE to this day as a reminder not to trust most people.

Anybody want to buy some spyder parts? lol........

Does the series 5 have a pretty unique sound signature like other pumps I hear out there? Or is that sound particular to the Phantoms?

No RT or Xmag for ya? Isn't that sacrilege?

Sounds like most pumps I have shot. Its basically a Sniper II, if you have heard them being shot.

Xmag needs a trigger job, very badly. I'm super low on funding these days. Besides, Im more suicidal with the pump. I camp when I'm shooting other guns. I was at the head of the barrel fields during the last spring game when the mass of players was behind me screaming at each other because I was making them look bad being in front of them with a pump leading the charge.

Done that. With the pump and less rounds you can run too fast in front.

The mass players on the other side kept screaming "Check him" after the first 2 volleys of semi-fire. The ref was standing over me and kept calling me clean.

Why do you need money for a trigger job? Unless you are buying a new trigger for that trigger job. That just confuses me. I always felt getting together to play at an AO get together one should bring a mag. Don't have to play all day with it I guess, but still. My .02 on the subject.

Paintball Sam's Spring and Fall Big Game are just regular yearly events that draw a real nice crowd of fun players to start with. It makes an easy excuse to make it an 'AO Meet'. And I used to have a sweet Chord body Emag with carbon fiber grips and Fireblade that I would use. Just got tired of filling HPA almost every game. I couldn't sustain as good a steady rate of fire as I can walking with a microswitch.

Keep an eye on the Buy/Sell/ Trade you might find a sweet deal. I've been seeing some quality Emags going for $350- $400. Mine will go for $490 once the deal goes through. If not, check with Tunaman, he always has quality products plus you can get a nice anno job and a tuna blade which is an awesome looking trigger IMO. If not there, Steve Distad from Sam's might have an emag ( or possibly a used xmag for sale if your lucky). I will put you down as a maybe.

Week before is Castle Conquest 21 at EMR. I'd like to go to that too, but doing two huge games in a row is a little painful. That being said, I'm gonna see what I can do. Sams is the season opener, and the times I've missed it I haven't felt like the season really go started.

Semi only. They don't allow tippman RT either. Every gun gets chrony at semi. If they think they hear ramp they will kick you out, if they think you have some mad debounce they will warn you or fire it themselves to check.

There is possibly 500+ players on the field, 20 people shooting just at you in semi is enough and you *will* be bonus balled at that one time or another. You don't need 20 people shooting you with ramp after the first shot breaks on you...
:shooting:

They take their safety there very seriously. They make orientation mandatory, and they would rather kick some llama ramper off the property never to return again than get the repeat buisness.

I'm sure. Also rest assured that it was a JOKE!!!! (Note the :p ) I do not ramp period, the only tourny I have played recently was an NCPA event that was semi-only. I have only ramped twice, both were at the chrono to show off. I am bringin my mag anyways...

Word around the rumor mill is that Sam's has PMI paint now. If someone that pre-orders soon could let me know what brand of paint (PMI, Draxxus) and what kind of paint (Stinger, Formula 13, ect.) they are having for the big game that would be great. I wont be pre-ordering until just before the big game anyways.

AutomagRT1483

Not really a big deal at this point. But the rumors are PMI Stinger for $75 a case when it retails for $35 a case (BlackRain sells it for $45). Thats what Im unsettled about. I know she dropped prices in all. But I want to have $75 dollar quality/grade paint if Im paying $75 a case. Stinger is BlackRain's lowest grade paint out of Stinger, Rampage, Marbalizer, and Nightmare. We had more than one person come in to BR on Sunday and tell us this. Like I said, this is just what we heard so far and are taking purely as speculation right now. 1 of the sources out of the two was mental mike. He is usually on the money when he says something about Sam's. But I just want to be sure what it really is because I know she is renegotiating where she is getting paint from right now. With National not doing so hot right now, I really wouldnt be suprised if she did switch to PMI. I like Marbalizer anywho. :shooting:

I guess I'll find out when I get there on the Saturday of the Big Game.

Hexis
03-28-2006, 04:49 PM
When they were using RPS paint years ago it was a Pink/Grek RPS paint for normal play and Marbs or Royal Gold for Big Game.

The paint will be so-so, and it will cost $75 a case. Add $10 for air all weekend and that's your only paintball related costs. No field fee of any sort. It's still way better than when it was $120 for a case of 2500. It's also quite reasonable all things considered.

AutomagRT1483
03-28-2006, 05:21 PM
Yes I realize what you are saying and I totally agree with you there. I not old enough to remember the $120 days, but I sure remember the $90-100 days back when I started playing 9 years ago. Paint prices have gone down and down since then, look at it now most places its hard to find paint that is over $65-70 a case.

deathstalker
03-28-2006, 07:13 PM
So if she drops the price of paint even more what do we get, fewer refs on the field? As has been mentioned (and you of all people know this :)), the Big Game is an experience. It's the same reason I have vowed to play every Shatnerball ( ). However, I do see your point. If I'm paying THAT much for paint, I wouldn't mind better paint. I've had some pretty sorry batches in the past. $85 cases with a break in every bag is disappointing.

Youth may surpass wisdom but we'll survive longer.

Not necessarily... There's that "Hold my beer and watch this" syndrome that is reserved for the "youth". After you surpass/survive that stage, you acquire a little age & wisdom. :p ;)

And Happy Birthday Tyger!!! How old are ya, 40? :p :D

Obviously, I'm not there. It took me this long to even be able to post I wouldn't be there. Even the weather mocks me. Stupid school... Beemer, make sure we get as many flags as we usually do on Saturdays.

I just wanted to give a big thanks to the Sams staff for putting together a good game. My buddy and I first started going to Big games in 1989, and were lucky enough to camp out for about 10 game before they stopped that.

We have been out of the sport for about 7 years, and just started playing again this year. And even though the Big game has far less turn out then it used to, the game play is better, and the fellow teammates work much better on the field.

Thanks much, and here is to many more years.

Perfect weather. Perfect paint. Pulled and Hung the flag the first game on Saturday. One of my fellow minnesotans that was with me pulled and hung the flag the 2nd Sunday game. Got the XMod installed on my emag. Shot my emag at 18bps full auto. Got over the shock of seeing my emag spit out 18bps.

All in all a perfect big game.

Gotta love the pink flowered shirt:

(Yeah I know I'm playing super loose, what can I say, I'm lazy at big games).

Scott's images are the ones shot by the photographers with the Big White Canon L glass. They are pro quality and prints are for sale. Those were the ones they were printing at the field. The images from past games are on the site now, the ones from this big game should be avaliable soon.

I also took a few wideangle images from the orientation that I'll post later (I need to resize them, they are huge now).

OK after a bit of viewing the photos from Scott R and Actionphotos.com I have come to the conclusion that Photoreflect is the single most annoying service for print fulfilment. The listings don't work well in Firefox (you can't select a different arrangement of thumbnails). The thumbnails are crazy slow to load, if they ever load completely (I'm on a nice fatpipe, no issues on my side). The preview image is way to small to actually check anything real (can't check focus with something that small). I also take issue at the options avaliable. I suspect that's a photographer's choice tho. Personally I'm not at all interested in any prints, ever. I would consider purchasing a web sized jpg of the images that interest me, if the price was reasonable. I'm not going to pay $40 for a "high resolution digital file". Even worse is that they don't tell you what they mean by "high resolution digital file". If you get the raw file (They we were all shooting Canon gear, so the CR2 file), maybe that price is worth it. If you get a jpeg, even full res, it's just plain crazy.

Sry I couldn't make it out I had a business to run and a landscape job that was worth 4K that I couldn't pass up and it had to be done this weekend when they were gone. I wish I could have made it but I have to pay off the business loan maybe I catch you all in fall. It looked like fun from all the photos.

Also hey if anybody is interested I have a private game in the mix for memorial day in Genesse WI. That's probably the next and the last time I can play till July 4th weekend.
