just curious on where to measure a 'mag barrel, Do you measure the total length or from the tip to the beginning of the hole or what?

Actually, I belive Tom once said that really, barrel legnth goes from start to wherever any porting or holes start... and after that, is all considered porting or muzzle break.
Check his tech tips about barrels, he might mention something about this there.

But when companies advertise barrels, it is measured tip to tip.

thanks for your help you guys. I thought i remember reading on here that there is a different way to measure a mag barrel because of the obvious difference it has to other barrels; but i guess they are measured the same as the rest

Restola--why do u say it is a 10" if it is longer than 10? just curious because i thought i had a 14" j&j but the total length from tip to tip is 13.75" so i thought that it might be a 12" and that i was measure to the wrong spots

IMHO if 2 inches of a barrel stick out the end of your gun it is a 2" barrel. who the heck cares if its inside the gun? that falls into "breech" catagory to me.

and my barrel was advertised as a 10" barrel. if 10" shows, its a 10" barrel.

call any company and order a 10" automag barrel, they arent going to send you something that is 6.5 inches long.
